Cusco rollbar?
I was flipping through an old turbo magazine the other day, and was reading the article on SP Engineering's orange FD. They said the roll cage in the car was from Cusco. I really like the design of the cage. The thing is, I can't find any info on the cage. At least not in english. Canman and the rx7store don't have any listings. I went to Cusco's site, but it's all in Japanese and Yen. Can someone give me an idea how much it would cost? Thanks.

Nevermind, I found it here. http://www.rxecret7.com/cus6poinrolc.html
It won't work on my damn Touring model. |
people whats up. how do you know it wont work? have you actually tried or just by word of mouth. i just recently got a 6pt cusco roll cage and will try to install it in my touring model this saturday. i will let you all know from expierence. where did i get it. from a friend who recently passed away. WE WILL ALL MISS YOU GENE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard that the Cusco cage doesn't fit right on U.S. Models because something to do with clearance for the turn signal lever. But there is some kind of mod you can make to get it to work. It shouldn't be a big hassle though I would think.
|
so whats the deal with the sunroof clearance, the turn signal and glove compartment, a sledge hammer will fix that
|
Fitting to sunroof mod....
Just a guess... however, the electric sun roofs i have installed have all been "cassette units" mounted to the underside of roof. Best guess is mearly cut off mounting legs and reweld the mountinh pads the same distance that the sun roof hangs down from bottom of roof assy..... Carter

the cage is not legal anywhere if you go racing btw
hey abflug, did you get the front bars? mike |

so what if its not legal, it looks good, yes i got the front bars but i get them tomorrow, hey wait im supposed to get them from mike, is it a coinsedence that your name is mike or are you the mike im supposed to get it from, but as it is the main piece behind the seats clears the sun roof. yes it is I, ben. whats up fred what have you been up to and yes im putting the abflug kit on my car and ill be sportin the scoot carbon fiber hood with volks gt-n's...18x8 front and 18x10 rear. when i get the front bars ill tell you guys if the 6pt cusco roll cage fits in a touring or not. by the way why is the cage not legal, i need to know if the drag officials will let me on the track with it. car is montego blue. no im not going to change the paint. i gotta give much respect to chuck at rotary extreme. ok im back, good news is cusco roll cage fits in touring model....test fitted from personal experience. bad news is glove box rubs against roll bar but can still be opend. the sun visors have to be left in a up or down positon and yes it does not clear the turn signal lever. but you can modify the lever or do what im going to do, use a pipe bender to move the pipe closer to the dashboard and walla. i will post picks in about 2 weeks or so. i need to do this right since i know some of you will want really detaild pictures. later. p.s. the cage is steel so i believe im legal now.
|
damn you guys are not gonna like this but it worked for me. the 4pt cusco should fit no problem. but to get the 6pt in you will need to bend the bars so that they clear the glove and the blink assembly. i used a torch and bent the lower half passenger side to match driver side and bent the driver side to match the lower passenger side. basically i bent them to us spec. any muffler shop can do this. i recommend installing the back section first and then bend the front 2 bars accordingly. i can still open the glove box without hitting the bar now and the driver side bar is now about a inch and a half away from the blinker assm. you will not be able to use the sun visors and yes the front bar right behind the front windshield clears the light and sunroof buttons. well it was worth the trouble for me but is it worth it to you. i took pictures of the test fit and ill try to post them. later people.

Let's see some pics.

Yeah you dont want the right hand drive rollcage. You will never get in the car. The left hand side didnt make room for us, since the steering wheel....
So since Im tired... Basically if you have any legs you wont be able to get in your car... |

Getting out: Place your hand on door sill and rotate your upper body out facing rear of car with legs following. Isn't safety fun? Next weeks installment: Wearing three layer nomex during the summer... :) |
with the roll cage the, you lose about only 5 to 10% on how far the seats go back, there are no side bars so you can easily get in and out of the car.
|
to make the cage leagel i have to weld the damn joints together. oh well since i wont be doin any serious racing i can settle for the looks, ill post pics when is painted and installed with panels.
