cross threaded bolt for seat

1 Attachment(s)
My dumbass cross threaded a bolt that holds the seat to the floor board. Looks like its a 1.25 thread. The threads in the bottom of the car are also screwd up because I tried to put in a good bolt and it would not screw down. Any ideas on how to get a bolt in there?

Doesn't have to be that one but you get the idea.

^Yep...definitely run a tap through it. If you have never used a tap before, be careful your first time. You have to "feel" the right thread path through. If you recut it wrong, then it is no better off than it is now. My advice is run the tap in from the bottom of the car if possible. Let it start with the proper threads and cut through the bad spot.

I have a tap and die, didn't have that size in my set. Was seeing if there were any alternative options.

A big hammer and some glue might work.

There are plenty of alternative options, but none of which I would consider a proper repair. Retap the hole, use a new bolt, and move on :)

+1 for running tab through bottom

Use a tap that is slightly bigger than the existing hole. But use the corresponding drill bit for that size tap. Even if a fine thread standard size is slightly bigger I would go with that . I found on my car the holes for the rear differential supports had a square nut inside the body which broke off completely. If this happens when you try to drill and tap you can weld a 3/16 piece of flatbar to the floor, mark and punch your seat bracket hole center. Drill and tap.
