Crap gas in OK
 

Well, I just moved to Enid, OK( 3800lb FD) and there is NO good gas in this town!! See attached pic. Is this some sick midwest joke? My car is tuned on 93 and it doesnt like the 91 at all, I get crazy knock readings over 5k and in boost.

I have gone to the extreme of getting 5 gallons of 100LL Avgas per tank to get the octane high enough so my engine doesnt blow up while I'm out here.

Is this standard for the midwest or just some odd thing in Enid? Is there any good gas out here?

That's funny, the 100 octane low-lead Avgas was only $2.21 a gallon!!!!

I am in Southern California. 91 is the best available, so I use a gallon of the Toulene or Xylene with every fill up. 10 gallons of gas to one of X or T brings me up to about 93.5 octane.

Can that (xylene/toulene) mess up any of the fuel lines/injector O-rings/FPR/FPD???

Just wondering, should be cheaper than the Avgas and not so much of a hassle

We have 93 at Sinclair gas stations. That's the only place I've seen so far.

The best I've seen in my city is 92.5 octane. (wtf :P) Otherwise, most places are only 91-92.

don't complain... 91 is the highest we get in CA and it's $2.20+/gal

when i was in cali, all i could find was 91 octane, use xylene or tolune to boost octane a bit for a bandaid fix, what out for spills on paint though...

just paid 1.66 for 93 octane...you guys got it bad

At least you guys have a good selection of the lower octanes. For most its regular, plus, and premium only. You guys have five choices. Just trying to point out the bright side, if there is one.

I have used it without issue. It is already a componet of gas. As a matter of fact IT IS GAS!!!! :)

Really, It's just a high denisty fuel. Do some research on who is using it and how they are using it. You may find that it is right for your car.

You could get water injection installed as a safety precaution. I would just turn the boost down or tune the timing back and deal with the lower octane.

91 only in AZ $2.10 gallon and going up. You can get 101 octane at one gas station in Tucson for $4.79 a gallon:eek:

You'll just have to retune for lower octane :(. Ironically some of the biggest tuners are out here in Cali where the highest normally available is 91, although there are 76 stations around that sell 100 unleaded for $5/gal.

That must have been why my knock sensor was reading over 60 at WOT over 5k rpm, but is acting normal now with avgas mixed 25%...no, it couldn't have been this shit 91 octane gas, must have been something else. Yeah, how would I know what I'm talking about?

That was just something ignorant to post, somebody take his keyboard from him and put him in time out.

Octane need is a function of compression, boost and timing among other factors.

Of course I could tune back my car. I could reduce the timing advance and it would be happy on the 91. I didnt pay good money to have my car tuned to have to run it nuderded.

Welcome you are an hour away from Okc and should head this way one weekend to meet up with the other FD owners. As for the 91 octane dilemna I think thats just in Enid. I have 3 x 93octane stations within 2miles of my house and one has 101.

the NE is known for 93 being common and 94 at sunoco.

I would check your local sunoco and see what their "Super" gasoline rating is...probably 93 in that case.

just turn you boost down until you tune for 91. They do have 93 in the midwest. You just have to find the right store.

2 octane shouldn't make a huge diff.

If it did that would worry me more than the gas. To me that tells me my engine is walking a thin line.

hell, i've ran 89 for over a year. Some times all you get is 87/89 choice.

yes for turbos the higher the better but reality dictates otherwise sometimes.
