cooling problem

what would make my stock radiator crack across the top?i know heat, but what would cause that much heat and pressure.

If it's your stock radiator, the end tanks are plastic, which will crack eventually. The car is at least 11 years old, and coolant temps are usually 200-230 *F, with pressures of 10-13psi. If you search, someone posted a great deal on an aluminum radiator about a year ago. I think the brand name was CSR , and it was cheaper than the Koyo and Fluidyne radiators.

Good Luck,

The stock radiator isn't a very good design. Very small, and prone to cracking. If it was the original, you are fortunate to have had it last this long.

I found that old thread, about the CSF radiator:

thanks on the thread, but why did my radiator blow the way it did?it was like someone threw a bucket of water on my car.would the caps have anything to do with it or are the stock radiators that fucking cheap

The stock radiator has plastic ends that are like glued and clipped on the top and botom. Yes it is a bit cheap. I just replaced mine tonight with a koyo.

Karma maybe?

Do you still have an FMIC? The added heat would put plenty of stress on the cooling system. What are your water temps?

Good luck,

Running without (much) antifreeze will raise the cooling-system pressure and possibly lead to earlier coolant-pressure-related problems, such as cracked rad end-caps, burst hoses, etc. Water wetter, etc., will not raise coolant boiling point or reduce system pressure.

Karma?wow you went way back with that one.maybe i took more roids and the pressure from my muscle growing caused the radiator to blow.thanks scotty,if you want to get beamed up 2 way me and maybe i can get you there.how do you like it clear or white.no hard feelings huh
