coolant problem

just dropped in a fluidyne rad. filled it up. drove it. is it normal for coolant to boil over and be on the floor as the air is coming out of the system.????tried to burp it. squeezed the rad hoses. to get the air out as much as i can. kevin

Where did the coolant come from? The front pass side? That's the overflow tank. If you filled it ALL the way up, as well as filling the rest of the system, then yes, some will overflow during the first heat and cool cycle (as the engine heats the first time, the pressure will build until the AST cap vents, pushing air in this case into the overflow tank and causing it to overflow). This really should only happen once, and subsequent heating and cooling cycles should operate around the total volume after initial expansion. Unless you add more to the overflow tank. I usually put the tank to 3/4 full when refilling/burping the system, and don't fill it to the F mark until I've seen coolant at the top of the AST and filler neck three times in a row.
