Is this comom problem??????????????/

Ok this is weird, i live in CA, Sacramento and its really hot and if you drive the fd and put it in the garage the fan wont stop spining.
Is there something wrong with the car or its tooo hottttttttttttttt??????/
By the way its probably over 120 in the garage :MissileSm

It sounds like you have the fan mod done to the car. How long does it stay on? Does it do it all the time or just sometimes? I would talk to the previous owner and see if it was done.

Yeah, the fan should shut off when you turn off the ignition.

I'm just a few miles from Sacramento. My best solution is NOT to drive the FD when it is stinking hot. I live in the foothills with lots of up-downhll driving and usually won't take this car out once the temps exceed 85F. Just a toy, so I can pick and choose the time I play in it.

Like today. Stinking hot, no driving but, building a homemade strut brace as the factory ones don't seem to fit my mods.

whats fan mode?
it started doing this couple days ago but now it doesnt turn off batery has to die for it to turn off.

took it to the mazda plus on florin st. car has problems went there they said that preveouse owner had pluged in 12v instead of 5v into the car comp so it started frying itself and caoused some problems car was staling and turbos didnt work proparly and rpm was very low and car barely drove.
changed the computer and still nothing but after the batery died becouse of the fan, tried jump starting the car car started and now the engine light went off and took the car for a spin and car works good. So weird. But the fan wont turn off.

my car's fans stay on sometimes even if i remove the key. other times it doesn't. seems to keep the fan on when it is particularly hot. i don't think this is abnormal..

when that happens to your car how long does the fan stay on for?

There was a cooling system recall in 1995 that changed the cooling fan control.

Recall 95V069000: Fuel Hose Leak/Fan Module
This is the fuel line recall. Replaces the fuel lines with newer more heat-resistant parts, and the addition of the rewired cooling fan and the new fan control box. The wiring on the cooling fans allow the fans to run with the car off, and the control box allows the fans to run for 10 minutes after shutdown if the car is over a certain temperature. (221F for 5-10 minutes before shutdown, according to some forum members)

Dale Clark compiled a list of Recalls and Tech Service Bulletins, which can be found here:

The ECU is located behind the passenger side kick panel. Look around the ECU, unbolt it if you have to and look for a single black wire coming off of it. IIRC, the original wire is only about 6 inches long with a spade connector at the end. If you find this wire coming from the ECU and it's connected to ANOTHER wire or directly to the chassis, it will cause you fans to stay on for 10 minutes after shut down. To disable it, just disconnect it and isolate it from any ground connection.
Just speculating....I know you said that it runs until you battery dies, but with a healthy battery, it's usually not an issue. It's a common mod to reduce underhood temps by keeping air moving after shutdown. The previous owner could have done this mod and your battery is just weak(?)

dima_b32 06-24-06 02:49 PM

i dont think the battery's weak cause it ran for hours. i dont remember exactly how many but it was close to four hours i think. ?

dima_b32 06-24-06 04:52 PM

and now another prob, i just went and started it to see how it would do, and it started smoking from the passanger side, and i jsut had the computer replaced cause it burned and all the wires checked. they said it was all good. anyone know what might be happening? cause i'm all out of ideas here

thanks

Yah I wish my fan would run after getting in from a hot day, but once the ignition is off, they turn off. I will run them from time to time after a really hot day by leaving the ignition on and my A/C on heat and Fan setting 1. This causes the fans to run and cool it off a bit is all. :)

Manual Fan Control

According to a post I read from Adam C, there is an upgrade you can buy called a "Fan Control." Allows you to run the fan a little while before you shut down the engine. Sounds like a good mod. I have all the same troubles mentioned on hot days. Best not to drive in over 85 deg weather.

But the problem is the fan wont turno off at all, the only way to turn the fan off is unpluging the batery and when puting the clamps on the fan turns on again.
Tried starting the car and black smoke started coming in from the iside of the car .
evey time starting the car new problem starts.

scotty305 06-24-06 08:33 PM

It sounds like you have a wiring issue. It's also possible that at least one of your cooling fan relays have failed. I would take the car back to the place that did your work, and tell them about your problem.

**THIS IS A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO MAKE THE FANS NEVER TURN ON, DON'T DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE FANS DISABLED**
For now, you could remove the 60A cooling fan fuse, which is in one of the two fuse boxes near the battery. This will disable the cooling fans completely, and it would be dangerous to drive your car this way. Before driving the car again, you can put the fuse back in and take your car to the shop to be repaired.

This is pure silliness and bad advice. Any car that cannot handle greater than 85F ambient temperatures should be fixed or sold.

Yeah bring it back to Mathew at Mazda's Plus. I use them all the time for most work even though they are a little expensive. They really know their stuff and should be able to solve your problem. You might have them put the fan controller in while they are at it.

Thats the place where they told me that my computer was burned and all problems stared from there, but not the fan problem it started after car got work done on it.

RE-Amemiya 06-25-06 07:59 AM

My fan used to stay on after a drive in the hot weather. I would take the key out and the fans would run for probably another 5-6 mins, then shut off.

Didn't think it was unusual.

tamers1 06-25-06 08:36 AM

It's not unusual at all for the fans to stay running after removing the key, if you've been running it especially hard or long on a hot day. It is however unusual for it to kill out your battery after staying on for many hours after removing the key. It also sounds like you're burning quite a bit of oil. Is it coming up through the shift pannel? buckle down and bring it to a quality rotary shop. soon! We want to see healthy 7's out on the roads.

Yea i know i want a healthy rx7 too. But the cxar hasnt been driven for long or hard if you just start it and shut it off the fan will just work until the batery dies it does that all the times. Where can i find a good rotary shop Sacramento? We went too Mazda plus and they said they fixed the problem but car is still having lots of problems.
After coming from the shop car did the same thing as before staled alot and it barely drove very low rpm hard to get speed and keept doing the same thing.
came home well the fans were on like for 5 hrs the car battery died and tried jump starting it worked well the car ran perfectly took a litle spin around the neighberhood everything worked, ecsept the fans wouldnt turn off again. My brother tried starting it again and smoke started coming out into the interior. Probably going to start it again today will see what kind of suprise is coming up next :wallbash:
