Click no start, small plastic feel from under dash
 

Hello all, well took the car out for a cruise today and I'm about an hour away from the house. Currently experiencing a click no start issue. My car has done this since I've owned it, now there is no click. Turn key and nothing, no click no start. A small plastic circle was found in the floorboard just now. Any clues????

Never mind, I found it. The small plastic circle attached to clutch pedal broke. How do I get a new one?

Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda for OEM. I went to Home Depot and bought a plastic cover/nipple piece that I used. The purpose is to depress the clutch switch so the ignition can turn over. If not depressed you get nothing like what you experienced.

A bolt and nut will work too until you get a better bumper.

Ha! That happened to me in DOWNTOWN HOUSTON! Stalled it and it wouldn't crank. Fortunately a friend was with me, so I put him in the driver's seat, pushed it to running speed then had him drop the clutch to restart it. I was wearing flip flops. It was great.

As for fixing it, it appeared to me to be some sort of wax or plastic that they melted into the hole at the factory, and I assumed it would not be available as a standalone part. I ended up popping a door panel trim clip into the hole:

a flat trim panel rivet should work better.

I used a penny and masking tape when it happened to me once ... Sometimes you have to be innovative!

Ha, so it looks like a common problem. I have been looking around the house a lil trying to figure something out.

I thought about just putting some tape on it too but I'll go with the plastic rivet!

The fix I've been doing for ages is -

Go to Home Depot/Lowes and hit up the hardware aisle. There's a section with rubber chair feet. Find a rubber stick-on chair foot that's about 3/4" diameter or whatever is appropriate, they come in large packs. Peel and stick that dude on and you're done.

I've been using those rubber chair feet for YEARS on FC's and FD's, super cheap, works great, and holds up over time.

The bolt/nut technique will get you out of a jam, but that metal surface is hard on the plastic plunger and could break it over time. Mazda used rubber for a reason.

Does the clutch interlock make it click when it's bad?
I just replaced my starter and I'm still getting the click click click.
When under the dash and put the clutch switch all the way down and it still is clicking instead of starting.

Rotary performance says to use a 10mm bolt and nut. In a moment of desperation, I unplugged the switch and just wired a temporary jumper wire. For the last year....
