Choosing a Boost Controller
 

Looking to get a boost controller

what do you guys think is a decent boost controller that will be good for my current mods dp, intake and catback

as well as support mods i plan to do in the future. single turbo etc.

Also, how would you guys rate the Apexi AVC ?


When choosing a boost controler should does it matter what ECU i am using.

What boost controller would work best wit the Power FC + Commander setup?

Alot of people seem to like the Greddy profec B boost controllers

I like my Greddy E-01.The display is very nice,if a little large.

I don't think most people like them because of how they look. The original profec B is simple, and it works. If you want other fancy bells and whistles then it might not be for you.

Does this support the stock sequential setup ?

I know there hasn't been a lot of support on this board for this boost controller, but it's made waves in the subaru community.

Very slick setup. Proven company. It's a small control unit and the interface is provided through a Gameboy SP (used <$20). I fit mine behind the ECU. Full data logging (you can even hook a wide band up to it directly). Comes with a shiftlight/knocklight(lol like we can use that). You can download and upload maps on to your laptop as well. Virtual gauges. Per gear boost control if you want it. Lots of fine grain adjustment with open or closed boost.

I put one on my FD a couple months ago to help control my boost spikes (Stock except for turbo back exhaust with a ~2.4" restrictor plate in it). My car builds boost much quicker without any spiking. Doesn't hunt and I can even get it to taper boost like the stock boost control.

I checked with TurboXS to make sure there wouldn't be any issues with the stock twins. Turns out one of the guys who works that has been using it for years on his FD without any issues.

yes, all boost controller would work with stock sequential setup, stock ECU or any aftermarket.

A pair of JoeP inline controllers. Total cost = $100.

I installed mine tonight and tomorrow I'm headed out to adjust them.

Greddy Profec B Type-S all the way. Easy to setup, easy to use, works, and looks pretty sporty.

Blitz SBC Id FTW best boost controller i have ever used and it even learns itself! its a great boost controller and very very easy to use!

im using the avcr i think its by far the best boost controller...id say the best way to go abt this is that if u knw someone using these boost controllers go n jus have a fiddle with it...avcrs pretty kick ass...

i went with the "blitz dual sbc spec r" because it has a dual solenoid and i've hear lots of good things about it. very simple to use too.

It is a fair price.

I am using a AEM boost controller. Doesnt have all the features of the apexi and all but it is easy to use and has two presets that you can switch to quick. I havent used it too much since my engine is getting rebuilt in my FD but it was in my t2 and worked flawless. Once you get use to the adjustments it is a good bang for the buck boost controller.

the profec b spec 2 (and Most greddy controllers I believe) can be used with greddy's "remote switching unit." which is a wireless button with a velcro strap. It's used to go from high boost to low. Very handy for a type of traction control.

I love my turbosmart manual controller. It's a gated manual boost tee with clicking detents in the adjuster. 5 clicks = 1 psi roughly. They are a well know company, good quality unit too.

u can get them for around 90 bucks new on ebay.

profect B2 is what i run, ive heard a lot of great things about the AEM tru boost system.

i have the greddy type s and i think thats the easiest boost controller to use

Using a HKS EVC5 here - More functions than you can poke a stick at :)

Sorry for reviving this thread but "search" just isn't working for me. I've been searching and can't find a concrete answer to this:

Do I need a complete boost controller with my Power FC? I've been told by a riend that if I have a PFC, I can simply use a boost solenoid and control it with the PFC. I'm unsure if this is fact and if so, how to go about it. Guidance would be appreciated.

If, however, I do need a complete one, how does the Apexi AVCR Boost Controller compare to the HKS EVC-S Boost Controller?

Fact. With the stock sequential system you can use the PowerFC without buying the boost control kit. Apexi AVCR is the same as using the PowerFC boost control kit.
I prefer the Blitz units specifically the SBC SpecR.
