Changing the spark plugs on the fd... help!!!
 

Im gonna be changing the spark plugs on the car. What kind should i get if the car is completely stock and is automatic. Ill probably be getting the injectors cleaned too. Anyone know how much im looking to spend? Thanks in advance!

About $20 bucks. Get whichever ones you can get your hands on, spark plugs don't have much effect on a car as long as they are functioning properly..

extremely easy just takes some moving around...best way to do it....get a jack small hydrolic jack from walmart if u dont have one 40 bucks....jack up the front right drivers side...put the jack stand under there then slide under the car get a socket wrench with sparkplug socket look up with a flashlight and ull see the 4 plugs now put the socket on each plug then attach the wrench...if they are too tight take a paintball barrell of something made of metal like a pipe and add it to hte socket..use vaseline or no-lock stuff on the threads...do each plug 1 at a time and return the wires when ur done so u dont get mixed up

if ur car is normal use the bur7's 20 bucks at advance auto

yes sparkplugs make a huge difference....if they get carbon clogged even a little ull notcie a difference when cleaning them...make sure u get the ngk bur7eq's and u get the correct ones for the leading and correct 2 for trailing...

I'd have to disagree with your spark plug comment. It is similar to saying all oil filters are the same, where we know Frams are not good.

i agree, a spark plug is not "just a spark plug". use what the factory recommends, in stock or minorly modded cars use:

leadings: NGK BR9EQ(2)
trailings: NGK BR7EQ(2)

I agree about using the right spark plugs and, I would make sure they are NGK and not Bosch. Bosch works well on the cars they were intended for....European. I had no problems getting to the plugs from the top, once the elbow was out of the way. Use a stubby socket handle.

If they are doing a proper cleaning of the injectors, you can expect about $100 for the sonic cleaning and then about $150-200 in labor for the R&R. If the injectors don't get removed to get cleaned, then they aren't being cleaned.

Our tests show that an in the tank additive injection cleaner of high quality similar to Chevron Injection cleaner with Techron will remove adequately deposits from injectors when used properly, following the instructions on the container.
I can tell you we also provide off the car cleaning for $49.95 per injector so don't flame me. Why would I try to to tell you guys about a cheaper way?

It's cheap insurance to run a tank treated with injection cleaner every couple of thousand miles.

We use ASNU workstations from Australia which clean using heated chemical and
ultrasound.

if the car is pretty much stock i would recomend the NGK's and remember trailing"T" on the top and leading"L" on the bottom

Adequate is a relative term. However, if the injection cleaners were 'that' good, Sonic cleaning would be a dead business.

Yeah definetely just run stock plugs. But only NGK's!!!

GO FROM THE BOTTOM WAY EASIER.....if u go from the top u do it blind or u have to take off the elbow which means u should have to replace the gasket

When lifting the car, I'd put jack stands at all four corners, or use ramps on both front wheels. Jacking one corner will put weird loads on your swaybar and mounts. Search 'broken swaybar mount' and see how flimsy our OEM swaybar mounts are, then decide for yourself.

LOL. Maybe he hasn't figured out that the "standard" is from sitting in driver's seat. Left is driver side, right is passenger side on a LHD car.

Got those reversed bud. The tailings are 9, leadings 7. Getting this mixed up could cause your engine to blow as too hot of a plug can cause detonation.

FWIW I change the plugs from the top. Very easy and no need to craw around on the floor.

Also I have a bunch of different info on plugs on my site as I have tested many of the various choices.

I don't think that running a leading 9 and trailing 7 will cause detonation however.

CVS, just read through the spark plug section on your site. Any news on the rx8 plugs in FDs? I haven't heard of that until now.

No, I'm really sorry that I have no new news to report. I have had no time to drive my poor FD for one reason or another over the last 2 years. Next to be tested are the BR9EIX plugs.
