As soon as I drove it ,it felt a lot better.Hope I didnt mess up my diff buy running that old oil.

Yep, that's one of the most abused fluids in the car. Good job. Smells like ****, too.

Redline 75W90 is what I used. And flipmode & Fatman, I'd suggest taking the 20 minutes to change it

Im scared to ask why? Also I heard I have to do something special to get the fluid in since you cant hold the bottle up right? How about one of the squirters they use for turkeys?

not to change the topic or take over the thread but since were already on topic i have a question. right now i am in the process of stripping my car, getting it ready to get painted. well i noticed something unusal under the car but i havent gotten around to takin a closer look. i have a greddy evo exhaust and when i looked down the pipe past the muffler, right around the differential there is oil spilled all over it, and all over everything around the differential. i dont know exactly what went bad but something definitely did and let the oil spray out of the differential. has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know what could of possibly went bad?? im guessing its a seal somewhere that keeps the diff oil in the case but like i said i havent taken a good look at it yet. just want some ideas to what it could be

if i do that im gonna have to wait till my car is all back together cause its in pieces right now with no motor in it. that would prolly be the best thing to do, but i was hoping i could find the problem now while the car is down and get it fixed. like i said i havent even gotten under there and taken a closer look yet, so that would be my first thing to do, then ill go from there.

I replaced mine with about 70k on the chassis. Came out like a silvery black mud. Use whatever gear oil you want as long as it is synthetic.
You can get a pump that screws to the top of the oil bottle for less than $5. Much better than a turkey baster and about the same cost. You will find it at the auto parts store right next to the gear oil.

It is probably your differential side seal, it should be apparent which side is leaking. Right now I have a small leak on my driver's side side seal and it throws oil everywhere in that area. The seals are around 5 bucks from ray at malloy mazda... I'll be changing my fluid when I change out my seal, and at a little over 100,000 miles, I'm scared!

My diff only had about 20k since the last change, and it smelled like ***... and now my whole garage and house smells like *** - or almond coffee, depending on what mood I'm in... sometimes diff fluid makes me want to go to starbucks.

Oh yes and if you ever decide to pull your motor with the tranny attached,

1) drain fluid first
2) make sure the output shaft hole is plugged
3) warn friend that's under the car that's he's about to be showered with very nasty oily goo
