I got some stuff dipped in plain weave carbon fiber, Its a process called hydrographics, I'm really happy of how it turned out. I also went ahead and got the rear strut tower plastic covers done and the hatch divider. Here's some pics

Looks good.

Was it expensive?

rizzxx7 04-21-11 12:24 PM

I got a break since its my friend's shop, its pretty reasonable. I also got the piece that covers the fuel tank on the bottom of the rear bumper

ILoveJDM 04-21-11 12:38 PM

Shouldve got them in twill weave.

theorie 04-21-11 01:01 PM

should have done it with the 3M "dry carbon" wrap if you didn't want to use the real stuff - it looks more realistic.

evot23 04-21-11 01:21 PM

I like the look of it...contact info for the rest of us..?

are you serious? this ish is legit, I can't tell them apart from my real cf pieces. CF sucks a55 on pics but oh well

theorie 04-21-11 01:47 PM

ermmmm....maybe it's just me, but this looks nothing like CF:

compared to the 3m wrap:

compared to real cf:

whats important is that YOU like it, which you clearly do, so who cares right? :)

edit: found better pic

Agreed, plain weave imo looks like a fake overlay

93rx74lyfe 04-21-11 02:00 PM

Not to be rude but it looks like those fake cf shift knobs at pep boys, no bueno dude.

93rx74lyfe 04-21-11 02:02 PM

Agree, the 3mm film would have looked better.

fendamonky 04-21-11 02:38 PM

Um.... how does one "dip" something in Carbon Fiber???

its not dipped in carbon fiber. it's a process where they float a graphic "film" on water, then dip the part into the water, pressing it though the film. the graphic then sticks to the part, looking like it was printed/painted right on the part itself.

here's another example of what you can do with this process:

my mom has a sunglasses sunvisor clip that looks like this

not even close to looking like carbon fiber.

no offense. just looks like garbage. even though you prob got a good deal on it, should got something creative with the dip atleast.

ive wrapped in the 3m stuff too, its even textured. closest thing to real carbon.

rx7rcer09 04-21-11 03:39 PM

its a cool process and turned out great, but as others have stated it looks like a CF overlay, the 3M wrap looks real.

NoPis10 04-21-11 04:37 PM

It looks like the CF tape you buy at the local PepBoys or Autozone. No where near looking like REAL CF...

Sorry to the OP but it does nothing for me. As long as you are happy then NO worries on what we think. It's YOUR car and do what you will...

I think it is the fact Rizz got it in plain weave opposed to Twill, as that is how most plain weave looks...

Ah, makes sense... I had a feeling Rizz knew better than to believe that CF could be "dipped" onto pieces.

On an aside... I need to get my rear diffuser fixed (PFS kinda cracked it when my car was there last), anybody know of a shop that can fix CF in the VA/DC/MD/NJ area?

prrex4ever 04-22-11 04:35 PM

A good option, not as difficult as wrapping some of those wierd parts I quess.

mkiv98 04-22-11 04:52 PM
