Took the car out today... Ran ok at first, but by the time we hit main street the car had NO power. It wouldn't go much above 2k rpm at all. So we drove it to the shop and when we got there found out reverse didn't work. So we figured the transmission had probably bit the dust. Then the mechanic tried to rev it up and said it sounds like the catyletic convertor is plugged as well. Doesn't rev very freely and it makes a lot of noise like it's got an exhaust restriction... Not exactly something we wanted to deal with 2 weeks after buying the car Hopefully this is all it is! Anybody have any suggestions? And can someone direct me to details about putting a 5 speed in an auto car? I'm thinking if it needs a new tranny anyways why not put in what we want? Let me know what you all think.
