Can't identify a broken part
 

My dad thinks it's probably called an 'oil switch'; its right above a pair of spark plugs closest to the front of the car. It needs replacing but we can't find anything like it on any big rx7 part dealers (We tried Mazdatrix, Pineapple, and a couple others). Anyone have links to a parts catalog or have any idea what part I'm talking about?

there's tech manuals stickied here if you can't figure out what the part is and I recommend getting the part from ray crowe.

Or take a picture of it and it's location....I'm sure someone can identify it.

Figured it out, thanks to the parts catalog. Its an oil pressure regulator, part 14-2501
Now to find it somewhere...

Are you sure? The oil pressure regulator is NOT above the spark plugs on this engine. The Knock Sensor is above the front rotor housing spark plugs.

Mahjik is absolutely correct. You are going to be one surprised puppy when you try to put an oil sender/regulator/whatever in the knock sensor hole....

Soon as I read this I knew it was the knock sensor which will leak an oilly wax like substance.

Unfortunately we have some newb who just threw out an answer without knowing what they talk about!

+3 on Knock sensor.

The continuing story of folks buying a car that they have no idea what makes it run let alone how to begin fixing it. No manual, no mechanical background, just $$ to lay down on a exotic and go.

Take it to a knowledgable Rotary mechanic.

+4, it's most likely the knock sensor if it's above the spark plugs, and go back to the FSM to make sure what it is before you go any further.

What? I appreciate this car as much as anyone, but it's about as exotic as Paris Hilton's jail suit. And I generally appreciate your posts, but this sounds like some snobby PCA member trolling.
I'd bet very few here were intimately familiar with the FD when they bought it. He screwed up and mis-identified a part. He's been corrected. Can we give him a break?

You're telling him to beware of himself. It's unfortunate how people can turn a learning experience into something else by discouraging them to stay away from their own car.

I'm sort of relaying questions my dad has about the car into the forum, and checking out the FAQs and manuals myself. He's the pro, with 24 years of experience in the business to prove it. Waaaay back he used to own an RX-4 and that knowledge along with this forum are whats helping us get through a couple repairs and maintenance. Thanks for catching my mistake BTW.

i highly doubt any of us knew much about a rotary before we owned one. Yea i knew how the engine worked, i knew the basics, i knew the statistics, but i couldnt tell you where the knock sensor was located before i owned one, and i doubt many other people could either., so dont feel bad.
