A/C Blower selector switch
 

I've searched many different combos... A/C Blower, A/C Fan switch, A/C, etc, but couldn't find a thread relating to my problem.

My switch works on high, ( AC light is on, blows cold air) but does not work on 1,2,or 3 (no fan at all, AC light turns off). It did work intermitenly for a little while, and then stopped again.

I was wondering if anyone had this problem and fixed it... i don't want to take apart the whole dash, it i don't need to.

What kind of ECU do you have? I know there was a lot of discussion about this on the tuning forum. . .very similar problem with Power FC's I think.

well actually, its probably a pettit unlimited... but still, not an aftermarket...

sounds like your resistor pack or whatever it's called went bad. its the resistor that controls the blower motor.

where is that? behind the controls, or down by the blower motor?

update, the AC light stays on... its just the blower that doesn't blow on 1,2, or 3.

i got the same problem but mine dont blow in 2 3 4.... stupid pfc..

bump... still looking for a fix. I DO NOT have a PFC... Just the stock computer.

Call Ray at Malloy Mazda. It's most likely the blower motor resistor. It's located very near the blower unit itself and you should be able to unplug it and unscrew it with out the need to remove any of the dash.

If you notice your fan making noise when it is turned on or while running you made need the blower fan replaced.

Ok, i checked the FSM and it says that if each wire has positive voltage its ok... but, how much voltage should it have? i checked all the wires, and they were positive, but i was only getting like .3 - .6 volts. should i have been getting full battery voltage (~12v)?

I'd really like it to be the resistor, since its so easy to get at. anyone have an idea, or would like to check there own working car to compare my results with?

I had the same problem with my subaru. The blower would only go on in 4th position, some people suggested that it may be the resistor so I took it out and it looked perfectly fine to me. Then I ordered a new resistor from a local dealer, put it in and everything's been working fine since then.

you usually can't tell just by looking at them. i work at a BMW dealership. our blower resistors fail all the time. i've probably replaced 100 of them. they all look perfectl, 100% normal. but they short internally. LOL, I have seen one or two that melted the connector and burned up some wires.

was the blower motor resistor. took it out, cleaned off the corroded 14 year old metal contacts with a screw driver and a file, plugged it back in and it works fine.
