Aw come on, give the uber-noob a break!

Nobody is complaining about the high price of past-their-prime Ferraris and Deloreans, but they are a PITA to take care of as well and fetch used market values higher than many new cars. And SpoolinRX, before you speak for all of us, I, like other's on this forum, knew exactly what I was getting myself into before I bought mine. I used *gasp* Google! I guess the lemon site wasn't scary enough for me. |
"or blowing a lot of white smoke out the tailpipe."
I'm going to search this as well but on a cold start I do get some smoke. Not much and doesn't last long. Smells pretty much like my first Gen. did. So my question: is smoke on a cold start ALWAYS a sign of trouble?? Thanks. |
I'm saving for a new 350Z - or maybe the next Supra. (I have also come to the conclusion, watching the RX-8 club forum, that those cars, as well, are time bombs waiting to go off.) Hopefully, my FC will last another year so I can save up for the downpayment. [/B][/QUOTE]
350 Zimie Schimie----if you're not indoctrinated by now then go for a Z or something else. But for most here I think, once you've truly "gone" rotary [ as in (FD) piston-free], you're done for, locked in, can't go back, don't wanna go back, rotary hum luvin', elitist pig-but that's an ok type, hopeless basket case, wondering when your engine's gonna blow..waitin' for the next 7...addict. You can probably tell just by looking in our eyes!!! |
Cold smoke is not always a sign of trouble. As long as it doesn't smell sweet and last a while, you should be ok. A minute or two of smoke should be fine.
Oh and Kento, I think that I might have asked the question to know why to beware of it. |

it took me a couple years to finally find the perfect one. there was one a while back that seemed perfect but i couldnt buy it at the time. http://www.jefflit.net/cars/mazda/rx7/ i think he sold it for $18k or something.
my rules for buying and FD were either a stock FD with low miles or one with an engine rebuild but not modded with a monster turbo and nothing else to keep it stable. my seller didnt lie to me and he took insane care of the car. i knew exactly what i was getting into. i paid 16.5k for a car that probably couldve sold for a lot more and was definitely worth it. a motor with 11k on it, new paint job, and reliably modded. |
Diablone:
You are probably correct. However, let me tell you sonny, with the creeky voice of an old man who is looking forward to having something to retire on LOL, I remember the days when I autocrossed my 83 RX7. I ran the thing SCCA solo II very hard for four years. Won a regional tropy for a season, once. That car got me to work every day for eight years and never blew an engine. Total maintenance over that period was under $2,000. I'd like to meet a driver who can claim similar stats with their FD. Maybe modifying and racing an FB is more in my price range. |
