Exclamation Blown engine?

Ok so what we have here is a 94 ..with 2000 jdm turbos, street port, ported wastegate....57k miles... Car is very choppy at idle....like a piston engine with cam lope.. Once u get over 4k and ibto boost it smooths out.. If u try to hold a constant rpm, the rpms hunt/surge. Took for smog ans it failed as grosspolluter on all numbers except NO.... I say compression check, but the owner wont listen to me.... Ok gurus.... Tear into him... Suggestons?

Check spark plugs first, check spark, injector could be bad,

You shouldnt be getting into boost until you figure it out...

start it and unplug the primary injectors one by one... if it still has the solenoids youll have to disconnect them carefully. (!)

First off removing those two solenoids in the front is tricky, if you plan on NOT breaking off the plastic nipples...

With the car running, unplug the front primary injector. (the primaries are the ones one the same housing 1/2" from each other) If the car still runs but doesn't change, its not working. If you unplug it and the car shuts off, its the other one.

Did you check the plugs? smell them? Spark checked yet?

Its been yrs since i've had the TT's, so i may be forgetting about the rats nest and its issues. Thought maybe with long needle nose pliers you could get to them. I remember doing it yrs ago. hmmmmmmmmmm. can you spray starting fluid into the intake before the throttle body and see if it smooths out the idle?

Well it might be tough reconnecting them once you do it... try the starting fluid thing first. disconnect the pipes before the elbow and spray into it. if that doesnt work take off the plenum and get to the injectors. I had to unbolt mine and start the car to see manually if they were spraying.

Youre positive its not spark?

1. Check to make sure the map sensor didn't blow off its vacuum line

2. Check compression. It's a lot easier to do then all the crazyness you're going through right now. Checking compression is easy to do and won't hurt the motor. If your friend thinks it will then promptly call him a idiot and kick him in the dick.

If you don't have a compression tester at least pull out the plugs one rotor at a time, disable fuel and spark, crank the engine and listen for three even pulses. If a apex seal is blown you'll hear it.
