Best roll cage for the rx-7
 

I have to buy a roll cage for my Rx-7 3 gen , , I have seen only 2 brands , Cusco and autopower . In my opinion , tha problem with the cusco is that it is too weak , and it came only with 6 points , and the auto power with 7 , please let me know a nice roll cage for my car , I dont want to mod the dashborad but I can mod everything else. Please post some pics , if you can find one

I have a 4 point Kirk Racing cage from the group buy here a year or two ago. Do a search and check their stuff out, they have lots of options and configurations, and its a nice solid tube cage, I hate those cusco jointed pieces, I don't trust that kind of design at all. I have a picture of the cage but its on a friends computer, if I get it from him I'll post it. If you're short a 6 point with a halo without cutting the dash will probably be ok, but if you're my size (6'-3") I dont think it would work out...

I'd have to say the Kirk Racing cage is 1 of the best.

as far as bolt-in's go IMO the raceshop version is by far the best. ive seen the kirk as well, it is a nice peice just a bit on the heavy side. but search for kirk and there is a section in the group buy area that has info on the raceshop version

I've heard nothing but good things about the Kirk Cage.

For a bolt in the Kirk is a good product. Mine had a tight (good) fit to ther interior headliner, welds were good quality. Got a cert of manufacture for my racing body. On the heavy side ??? steel weights 0.283 lbs/cubic inch, if the tubing is the right dai and wall thickness for the racing body regulations and base plates are sized to min regulations it will weigt the same as brand X; if Brand X is much lighter then it is not legal.

The raceshop one is nice as it doesn't require alot of alterations to the interior plastics, still allows full seat movement for driver and passenger (street version), is light (made of chromoly), and has been raced in alot of events.

If you are doing very strict racing and not just DE's or SCCA events, you might want to make sure these are legal. But many people have used the Raceshops bar without a problem.

I think Nuvarli had a custom one welded in as well as Damian. Otherwise the Raceshop one is a very nice alternative.

I'm actually not sure what mine is, was installed by the old owner, here are some pics of it though. I still would get a Kirk and take mine out if i had the money.

im looking at the kirk but ive been reading comments about the fitment.. can someone confirm if it was installer error or bad product?

im looking to keep my bins, not cut any plastics, and still have it legal for autox (not sure what class).. what would be the best roll bar for me? or should i just get it custom made and welded? (any est on how much that should cost?)

probably not the proper place to advertise but i have a brand new autopower 6pt for sale, still in factory wrap, my car is rhd, ordered cage & of course they sent 1 for lhd. easier to sell then send back, pm me if anybody's interested. it's a bolt in, no dash mods needed.

+1 for kirk I just ordered a 4 pt the other week. The reason for my choice is they don't make you give up your speakers and can be made for sunroof touring Fds. Also Ive heard you get a little more seat room over autopower, but Ive hear the M2 is the best for Fds but cost alot and is hard to come by

FWIW, The RaceShop and M2 rollbars are the same thing. However, M2 is gone and I don't know if Larry (The RaceShop) is making any more runs on rollbars.

The Raceshop/M2 FTW...nothing beats it as far as bolt on in weight and design.

I believe they are no longer available. I understand the owner had some personal issues and is focusing his efforts on other things. Being polite about what I heard.... :)

I'm going with a custom 8 point. I guess it would depend on what type of racing and requirements.

It depends what your use case is.
 

Which roll bar/cage option you select really depends on your use case.

If you want to be SCCA legal, then the race shop bar is not for you. I have this bar, (one of the first 5 sold by M2) and because of the design, though it looks nice enough, is not legal for use in some SCCA classes. You may be classed into a very difficult category simply because the bar size, material and that it appears to stiffen the chassis.

A 4 point bar may also not be suitable for the event you wish to participate. It's OK for a non-competitive track day (but then, so is no bar) but anything that reqires a bar for competition will probably mandate some type of door area protection. For this, the best option is a custom weld in solution. Be advised, such solutions are not just install and go - they need to be checked perodically, they need to be garaged and maintained like a race car.

If you just want it to drive around town, then fine, but unlike the pictures in this list, I recommend that you apply some dense padding to the bar. Doing so will make it more difficult to use the rearview mirror and obstruct the reach back to the bins even more. Using a roll bar in a car with no padding might actually be more dangerous than no bar at all in some conditions.
