Best ignition setup... How much can stock ignition handle...

Just wondering what would be a good ignition setup.. I see many peole using msd, jacob, and hks.. Dunno which to choose... What is reliable, or what is just hands down the best...

I want to know this also...Anyone have any dyno results comparing the two?

Me too I'm getting lots of break up at high boost I think I need some new coils or I'm tuned too rich or my harness is bad or....

spoolin 11-17-02 05:14 PM

hks twin power is what a lot of people are running. mine should be here tuesday

i used a jacobs to solve my ingnition woes, but it only does the leading plugs.....i don't really know if one is better than the other....

coop 11-17-02 07:11 PM

that is the one I was looking at... I think I will end up with that one...I am just curious if there are numbers out there for the two.

coop 11-17-02 07:12 PM

(The HKS is what I am looking at)

cruser 11-17-02 07:13 PM

I had no problems with breakup at 20psi with the HKS unit.

loi 11-17-02 07:15 PM

hks twin power , no problem at all.

jpandes 11-19-02 02:02 PM

HKS twin power solved my High rpm hesitation probs...Get the wire harness=10 minute install.

can the msd 6a run two separate coils. i was thinking about going with a 6a and two msd blaster coils for the leading.

With stock twins, you guys don't need a damn thing! I have a single turbo running 10's in the 1/4mile and have stock ignition. And I run 20lbs of boost. The stock ignition on our cars is very good. Too many people put amps on it when its not needed. I used to have the HKS Twin power, noticed nothing, so I took it off, sold it and now my car runs better than ever......

kwikrx7 11-19-02 05:16 PM

Just adding to what ErnieT said, alot of the aftermarket ignition setups actually heat up the coil too much causing them to fail. Dave at KDR did a test with ignition amps (HKS, Jacobs, and Ignition Solutions)..I think they are the 3 and found they all put down about 2-3 rwhp over stock but the Ignition Solutions didn't run so hot. Might want to double check the plugs and wires. I had a recent ignition problem and it was my junk Jacob's wire - went back to stock wires and it works great. Stock ignition can withstand up to 500 rwhp - obviously since that's about what ErnieT should have running 20+ psi

The stock system sucks, I only got 478rwhp with it :-)

I have no breakup with my HKS at high boost or high rpms. I did a lot all at once so I can't give an accurate before and after, but I can say that everything is very smooth with my HKS throughout all ranges.

I just got done installing the HKS. It was super simple with the wiring harness. Haven't got a chance to drive it yet. But I did start it up and the idle is much better. Doesn't bounce around and it revs better.
