Battery to trunk relocation Q's

Ive read alot of threads with writeups/how-to's of people relocating their batteries to the rear bins, but not any relocating the battery to the trunk. I'm doing this because i have rear seats in my project FD. Anyway, ive found a base mounting kit for an optima battery (hopefully it will be secure enough in the case of an accident) and im buying everything else now to build the setup. Before i buy, i wanted to ask if anyone felt that 0 gauge wire was overkill, and a waste of money for my run to the engine compartment? :dunno: Thanks, Heath

Goodfella has his in the trunk. Might want to search for some of his posts and pics.

0 gauge is overkill IMO unless you have a big stereo or other electronics that will tax the system. BMW uses used 2 gauge and so does my Mini Cooper S. I've been using 2 gauge on the RX7 for 2 years now with no ill results.

FAQ thread has a couple of good links. Here is one:

thanks for the links! :) . well my amp is on the larger side i suppose, but its no audio monstrosity. its just the fact that the run is so long that makes me consider using 0ga wire instead of 2ga.

BTW it looks like you live fairly close :) its nice to meet all of the FD guys in the bay. there seem to be a good number of us. -Heath

If you are truly worried about taxing your system, then run your battery in the back with 2 ga wire, and then run a large capacitor between your battery and your amp.

What your alternator can't do, the capacitor will pick up for.
