Bang!

Hi,

PLEASE HELP ME SOMEBODY

My 3rd Gen RX7 went bang the other day (literally). it managed to get me home (5mins away) but was missing very badly. I live in the channel islands and there are no rotary specialists over here! d'oh.

Im basically after any information as to what this could be. does it sound like a rebuild job or possibly turbo? any tests i could run to check?

any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!!

is it just me or do posts like this really annoy you guys too?

Symptoms?

have you even looked at the frequently asked questions? do you know where the search button is?

do a compression test before even putting effort into anything else.

Yeah, went bang, now what do I do ? Sell the car and get one that doesn't go bang.

MADDSLOW 04-06-07 09:12 AM

part it out

What a way to welcome a newbie lol.. Ask one of the mods if no one wants to help

MADDSLOW 04-06-07 09:19 AM

I'd do my best to help if maybe I read a symptom... "engine goes bang, whats wrong?" isn't a very good way to describe a problem.

btw I love your avatars, different every week I see you lol

7racer 04-06-07 09:27 AM

Check the MAP sensor.

Where you boosting? Did you pop off an intercooler coupler?

sickseven 04-06-07 09:29 AM

thanks to those of you who are helping (i.e. compression test)

maddslow - what in the name of satan are u on about "avatars" n that?

JTurton - if little things like this in life annoy u, u have a very easy life! obviously i dont know where that button is or i would have gone there first. errrrrr TIMAAAAAY!!!

MADDSLOW 04-06-07 09:39 AM

maddslow - ok, i'll be a pro at this ish before long!

anyways, a more detailed description -

was driving along, went "bang" and started runnig like a normal car would on 2 cylinders. got it home and died in the driveway. a red light came on, which i think is exhaust temp, maybe temp in general. it still starts though (missing). erm smokes a bit. not sure what else to say

Yeah, do what 7racer said, check the vac line to the map sensor. If it's popped off, the engine will run real crappy, rough, lots of smoke. It's an easy check.

sickseven 04-06-07 09:52 AM

vac line to mac sensor!!! this is the advice i need!! thanks

where can i locate this please??

:)

yuichiror 04-06-07 09:55 AM

It's a square black box attached to the firewall above and to the left of the brake booster.

sickseven 04-06-07 09:58 AM

is it under the car or can i get to it from the top?

firewall and brake booster - u takin the weewee??

yuichiror 04-06-07 10:02 AM

Open the hood of your car. The firewall is the far wall of the engine bay, closest to the interior of the car. Look just beyond the intake elbow that connects to the upper intake manifold. Just to the right of the elbow, attached to the firewall will be a small black box that's supposed to have a vac line running to the bottom of it.

sickseven 04-06-07 10:09 AM

thanks for the help - i'll check that

yuichiror 04-06-07 10:15 AM

Here's a pic of where it is:

And read the FAQ at the top of this forum. There's a lot of good info there including explanations of the various acrynoms used in this area of the forum.

sickseven 04-06-07 10:23 AM

thank you VERY much for your help!

deed of the day!

yuichiror 04-06-07 10:38 AM

Always glad to help, and thank 7racer.

Was that the problem?
