bad idea?

If I get an FD it will be this summer. I can already say it will be almost competely stock and under 80k miles. I want to do the reliability mods but I want to get them done near school (good rx7 shop nearby) which 2500miles away. Would it be a bad idea to take a good condition fd 2500 miles in the summer and then get the mods done?

I wouldn't do it. Without knowing the exact history or condition of each of the critical components of the car, there is no way to know if you will have a coolant system failure or other failure. 2500 miles in the summer is a lot of cycles of the coolant system, the stock AST/Radiator/hoses/etc. (w/80,000 miles on it) could definitely fail on that trip.

There are reasons that you are going to perform the reliability mods before you put significant mileage on your car. If you are confident in driving 2500 miles in the summer, why do the reliability mods at all?

If you absolutely cannot find a good mechanic near you to perform the work, then have the car taken to the destination on a flat bed.

I agree, or you could do them yourself and learn something

Are you sure you want to buy a FD, when you are told not to drive 2500 miles in the summer unless" reliability modds" are done because it might not make it?
