Any1 know of a brand that makes radiators for automatics? Checked into koyo and fluidlyine and neither of them do. Any suggestions? Also does the efini y-pipe fit with stock 95 turbos? And any1 know of a site where they sell them polished, rx7store.net has the y-pipe but its not polished

 

AWR makes them for Automatic FD's. It the same one they make for Mazdaspeed (5 speed).

The only difference with the automatic radiator is the loop in the bottom of the radiator to cool the transmission fluid. Might actually be better off with a manual transmission radiator and a good aftermarket tranny cooler - maybe even put the cooler where the 2nd oil cooler would go. Keeping tranny fluid cool is a MUST on an automatic for long life.

Not to mention that would likely be cheaper .

good idea...so good that the mazda engineers already thought of it. A second oil cooler already occupies the passenger side duct, functioning as a trans cooler. It looks identical, but I do not know if it has a built in thermostat like the oil cooler.

I would suggest doing what I did, Buy the manual radiator, clean your auto tranny cooler on the pass side really good and install a Summitt Racing 17" rail cooler as an addition. Also install a Trans temperature gauge. Mine rubs @ 130F while tooling around town in 90F weather.

From what I heard, the automatic radiator does not cool the fluid. There is a seperate transmission cooler on the right side of the radiator. (I think it is on the right.) I think the mazda engineers just used the radiator as a way to conserve piping. It just transports the fluid from A to B.

 

so would it be posible to use my after market auto rad. with a manual trans swap?

And why do almost every other automatic tranny vehicle in the world have their tranny cooler built into the radiator - in many cases the only cooler, like on my Civic's radiator I replaced this past weekend?

It's not that it was not meant to cool the tranny fluid, but that it generally does not do a good job of cooling the fluid well - hence the additional tranny cooler on the FD.

FD3SR1: Yes, you simply disconnect the tranny fuid lines. I have the first auto tranny specific radiator that AWR built, which I had to lobby him for and wait 3 months, and have since done a tranny swap.
