AST to Overflow the source of the buzzer
AST to Overflow the source of the buzzer
hello everyone, recently i have had the coolant buzzer sound at me several times..
First buzzer - i start my car up in my driveway and the buzzer immediatly sounds. I shut the car off look underneath it and see coolant leaking. I jack the car up and pinpoint the source as the line that goes from the top of the AST to the overflow tank. there was a join about half way along the tube that had come apart (is this line supposed to be one solid tube or is it some kind of one-way valve or something?) anyway i reconnect the tube slap a cable tie on it and leave it at that.
Everything is fine for a couple of weeks untill i go to the beach. Im sitting at the beach and turn the keys on halfway so the stereo etc is on..my coolant buzzer sounds..oh crap i think as i get out of my car and look underneath it for leaks..no leaks..
I decide to head for home and i start the car up as i cant see any leak and my coolant level looks fine..as soon as i start the car the coolant buzzer turns off. hmmmm weird....
when i got home i let the car cool down(temp gauge stayed completly normal the whole time), jacked it up and had a look for anything out of the ordinary..the same line that runs from the AST to overflow had once again slightly come apart at the join..not enough to leak any substantial amount of coolant but it must have been enough for the system to loose enough pressure that it wasnt sucking coolant back from the overflow tank properly.. or it was creating air bubbles in the system.
so pretty much the moral of the story is for people who get a coolant buzzer and have no leaks, no smoke and no overheating OR coolant not getting sucked back into the system correctly from the overflow tank...check the AST to oveflow tank line! it was my problem anyway...sorry for the long boring post it just may help someone else sometime!
