I'm going to change my oil pan today to a pineapple racing version, and maybe after that I can see if I can get a video posted for you guys.
|
^Huh?? Do you have the silencer on the car? Same one listed in the thread title? I'm most likely going to buy this one and see how it performs as well.

^ ditto..
I'll be moving to England with my FD later this winter. From what I have heard the only real restrictions they place on vehicles is in relation to noise level. If your car is too loud they won't even let it leave the boat (so I have been told)... Does anybody (with an ATS installed) know how many db they reduce your exhaust noise by? I wish I knew off the top of my head what the legal db limit was in the U.K... Currently my exhaust system is stock, but I plan on having a DP, MP and N1 duals before I ship my car. |

But I did get the ATS on my car, its MUCH quieter now (Dual N1s is a loud cat-back) even at WOT its quieter which makes me think that its losing HP, although I dont have any dynos with the silencer on I've seen graphs for other cars where they didn't lose any power with it on. -Andy |

Does this have any effect if you still have the cat on? My mechanic says silencers won't have an effect if you still have the cat on. Is this true? He's a rotary specialist mechanic.

Yeah, that would be a good idea though. :D |

If the hp loss isn't signficant I'm definitely going to pick one of these up. I don't need cops giving me more attention than I already get. Besides, when I get pulled over it's usually multiple tickets I get slapped with  . Edit: I HATE thread jackers. |
My buddy has one on his R33 GT-R... he runs a 4" straight through exhaust.. which is loud and resonates like hell...
After putting the ATS on.. the idle is a bloody whisper and WOT is just "sporty" sounding... as for performance.. u can deffinately feel the car is choking some.. but it's not as bad as sticking a potato in the car... since it does vary it's flow and all.. I'm seriously considering picking up one myself... i don't care that much about the power loss... its only held by 1 bolt anyways.. I wouldn't be stupid enough to try and race with one in my muffler anyway.. it's just to make the daily commute more bareable.. |
Really, only one bolt? If that's true that's awesome news. Would make putting it in and taking it out super simple.

Forgot to ask, if anyone can answer this question it would be very much appreciated:
I'm wondering what effect flames coming out the exhaust have on a silencer if any at all? I don't want to destroy the silencer if I know I'll be shooting flames. If anyone can enlighten me it would be highly appreciated. Thanks! |

And yes it is held on by one bold: 7mm (iirc) bolt, washer, locking washer, 10mm teflon nut and a cotter pin. I'd post pics but no camera. -Andy |

Yeah, that would be a good idea though. :D Only problem is that I will be driving on base everyday for work, so to keep the stock set-up to get into country than go wild isn't going to work, since I will have a gate guard hearing me from a mile away every day. If they get suspicious than they check my shit. If they check my stuff and it isnt legal than my driving privelages get suspended and I get into all kinds of shit (I don't know if they would go so far as to deport my car... but I really don't wanna learn the hard way).. Yeah, I already thought about the idea of just keeping the stocker in there for the inspection (thats what I would do if I were staying in the states). Thinkin a silencer is a smarter/safer option. Sorry for the hijacking.. |

Thanks! the construction is quite solid actually... the only complaint is that sometimes it get's "stuck open" and doesn't return to the closest position and the car is louder at idle... i believe that might be due to carbon gumming up the spring.. but usually another back fire pops it back into place... perhaps a regular removal and cleaning would help prevent that... or maybe his was just an exception |
I don't think the backfiring would damage it, they seem pretty durable, but with them on I don't seem to get as many little pops and backfires as before.

Bump for more real world experiences with this thing :)

I think the ATS is an awesome product. I don't have it, but I do have the PS Revolution, which uses the same technology. It's pretty quiet at idle, and cruising. You don't get that annoying loud humming sound of the exhaust on the freeway either. On my cat-back, I have a tool *had to get it directly from apex-i themselves* that can adjust the sound of the exhaust. I have it open all the way, and my friend with a dp, hiflow, cb is jealous of how quiet my car is. On the ps revolution, the piping is the same size as the gt spec *3.75"*. It's to compensate for the ats system in it. SO when it's fully open, it's like a 3" exhaust. The whole reason they built the ats system, is to help cure the loss of torque you get from a free flowing 3" exhaust. I think my exhaust is awesome. Plus, how many people do you know have it?
|
Yeah its pretty quiet, sometimes I wish it was louder haha, but it does cure the annoying droning on the freeway.
|
this may be a stupid question. well it is a stupid question, but will these work in a Greddy muffler?
