Anyone seen this before? USDM tail lights with raised '99 spec circles.

So most of you guys probably know I do LED and '99 spec conversions.
Well I was working on a set of tails today and when I opened them they had these weird inserts. They are solid colors like USDM lights, but for some reason they have raised circles like '99 spec lights. I've converted about 50+ sets of USDM lights and I've never seen one with inserts like this before. Any ideas? Euro model maybe? https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1295904613 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1295904613 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1295904613 |
Nope I have no idea. I thought these were like the later 95s (I think) that Phil observed as well. I think I'm wrong.

'95 model lights had this IIRC.

apparently the owner of the light pictured above must have got it as a replacement - the other light of his does not have the raised circles (normal usdm). |

My 92 JDM FD has the same raised circles on one rear light and not the other.

theorie I had started a thread asking this same question, ironically after removing my taillights in preperation to be sent to you (which will hopefully be soon, hint hint.. ;) ) Haha, anywhay, check out this thread:

both of my tail lights are like this. I'm assuming they were replaced at some point, but do not know for sure. I think I brought it up in one of the threads talking about the measurements for the circles to do the conversion. I'd be interested to know if those circles are in fact the exact placement of the 96+ spec circles.

One of my '95 tails was like this. Dunno.

I don't think any US FD's shipped from the factory with those tails. I believe that, as time went on, Mazda stopped making the "flat" taillights since they went to the round style in '96 in Japan. If the car had the taillights replaced, like maybe after a rear-ender or something, the new lights from Mazda would have had the raised circles.
Makes sense to me. Dale |
I bought a replacement from mazda and it came like this
|
I've seen them before but have no clue about when they came out or anything like that.

I had a truck back into the passanger side rear light a year and a half ago (I was lucky it only hit the light) and it was replaced with a light that has the circles. I got in from the Mazda dealership brand new, so I just figured it was a updated version.

So Theorie, did you confirm that the circles on the lights are in the same placement/position as the 96+ lights?

so as mentioned above, mazda must have stopped producing the flat surfaced inserts at some point, and now sells the raised-circles version, unpainted, as replacements for usdm. |
