Question Is anyone running the RA OMP adapter w/an ASpec long runner manifold?

I already have my setup apart, but from what I remember one of the manifold runners was very close to the OMP, and thus probably no room for this adapter.

I *think* Ihor installed one at the shop on this kind of setup but that was years ago.

Anyone?

This is the product I'm referring to:

Hey Rich, isn't there a way to use a block off plate and a brass nipple threaded into the omp to achieve the same goal if space is too tight?

^^^ Yes. A member on here actually posted pictures of his process and thin block off plate that he made to do so.

hy Rich, you are trying to help me out, so I hope I can return a favor :-)

I have the Ra OMP adaptor as well, though with stock twins. The adapter is about 2cm thick and that made me rework the oil return line (to the front cover).

Now I don't know how it works with the Aspec manifold but you could do a mock up with a 2cm spacer. You do have a 500R or GT35R right now, no?

I am running the combo in question, and have plenty of clearance. My turbo kit is one of Aspec's early 35r kits.

thanks for the input. I wonder if the manifolds have changed over the years, I definitely never had plenty of clearance by the OMP.

500R.....I will probably just buy the damn thing in hopes it works, otherwise can always stock it for a customer.

Chris and monkman thanks for the input, I had forgotten about that.....seems like a pain, I may look into that if all else fails

I have the A-Spec short runner GT3574r kit on the way... so I might be looking at options myself. I have an RA adapter sitting on my headboard... and not a single picture of my girlfriend...

hmmm... there's an interesting realization to come across at near 3 am.

Mobeoner thanks for the offer

It is as I suspected, the clearance is pretty minimal. It might fit but the OMP would be resting up against the manifold. Also, the factory metal heat shield would have had to be removed.

I opted to install a near-new (like 10k mile) OMP I had bought years ago and forgotten about, and covered it in some heat wrap to supplement the stock heat shield.

I will continue pre-mixing with idemitsu, typically 8 oz's per full tank. I just added 8 oz for 15 gallons (more than I intended) and the car still doesnt smoke one bit

Glad to hear you are not visibly fighting global cooling, otherwise you'd have to burn some rubber to smoke out the tree-huggers that will be stalking you.

I am thinking about trying to get my hands on a low mileage OMP myself. Mine currently has 102k on it. And for a completely new engine build, I don't see the logic in trusting an old OMP.

Where there any fitment issues at all with the long-runner manifold and the RA adapter?

As mentioned above, it's too close for comfort

They must have changed their manifolds. I have the metal heat shield on and a little room to spare.

Honestly their manifolds are VERY inconsistent. I've seen a couple of them and they vary with fitment. I had to slightly trim the metal bracket off on the one RA adapter and another not fit at all even with it completely removed!

When I first bought an A-Spec manifold my turbo wouldn't even mount without hitting the passengers side strut tower . I'll never ever buy a manifold ever again or even recommend one for that matter. I was only trying to save time by not making one myself. Yet, in the long run I had to modify the manifold to get it close... Turbine housing still rests against the strut tower

I may have not been paying attention over the last few years, but this is the first major complaint I have made note of about A-Spec. I wonder if this was a problem with their earlier generations of manifolds. I was also under the impression that they used jigs to weld everything up so the inconsistencies should be very minimal.

I have the rad and ic out of my car right now and I was looking at this same idea the other day. I have the Aspec long runner and 500r kit purchased 2 years ago. I do not even come close to being able to use the omp adapter. Right now I have maybe 1/2in between the manifold and omp. I guess maybe others are just not saying much, I never have until now, but my manifold from Aspec had to be machined on both motor and turbo sides to not leak.... It was pretty aggravating. I did call them and they offered to fix it, but my car was several hundred miles away at my tuner and I just opted to pay for another machine shop to do the work..

If you talk or deal with people that know how to weld/fabricate and they see any of the welds they'll agree that there's much to improve on. Most people just don't want to publically vent emotions, I personally try to practice the same too. I just think that if something is a continuous problem why not speak out about it? The kits cost more than most companies so IMO they should be top notch.

If you have the money have someone that knows what they're doing make you a nice custom fit kit. Other that go with an Rx7store.net kit!

Well, since I am an apprentice pipefitter (welder/fitter), I will definitely scrutinize the kit that is on its way to me. If I don't feel the quality is up to par for the price I paid, I will settle it with A-spec. I just don't trust my own fabrication abilities yet, and also do not have the tenure in my union to really ask for side jobs from some of my co-workers yet. Time will tell. I am pretty confident it will turn out good. They have had plenty of time to get it right.

Back on topic, I hope the short runner kit is good with the RA adapter, since I ordered the short runner with a GT3574r.
