Rhode_Dog 07-08-04 07:11 PM

I like it!

Fd3BOOST 07-08-04 07:12 PM

Thats one vote for yes. :p

su_maverick 07-08-04 07:22 PM

Its nice, but I love the dark montego

novadan67 07-08-04 07:38 PM

I like it too. Is that IBM? Also the bottom picture looks like you have a R1 lip and the rest are 99 spec. Why did you change it? I personally like the R1 lip with the 93-95 front. The 99 still looks good, but not quite as good as the R1.

Bucrx7 07-08-04 07:38 PM

I like it! I also have the same color!

drewroman 07-08-04 07:45 PM

I think I like it with the stock hood better than the MS replica...

but I only like it if it's drivable... :D you going to make it to Roy's thing on the 17th?

RXtacy 07-08-04 07:53 PM

I hate you u lucky bastard! :P

Fd3BOOST 07-08-04 08:05 PM

Yes, its IBM.
Yes I used to have a r1 lip.
Yes Drew I will be at Roys. Not sure if i will be in my rx7 or not. Im waiting on parts.

c00lduke 07-08-04 08:24 PM

I like it, you have one shot of it your car is angled and it looks like you are higher up in the air and it looks amazing. I think your color looks great but i'm sure the car it is on helps too :). You engine bay looks very clean too, keep up the good work.

I really gotta save up some $$ so you can polish my shit :)

and yeah im diggin the blue!

remydrm 07-08-04 08:37 PM

What made you remove your ABS ?

I have been thinking of doing the same on my FD just not sure how to go about it... any pointers or write up that you know about would be helpful.

Also the pro/con of ABS deletion.

the color is very nice.. what is the color code or name ?

rotorbrain 07-08-04 08:44 PM

yeah, i sure do like blue. . .

the only pros to removing the abs are weight and cleanliness of under the hood, oh yeah and you can do a powerslide if you want.

The car will not stop as fast without abs under any condition.

Not true, it has been proven over and over that you can stop as good or better if you actually know how to use your brakes, with that said and mine removed also, most people should leave it on the car as they can't seem to no wreck them even with ABS.

XSTransAm 07-08-04 09:08 PM

ive been reading on it for a little bit now...

this link says the only condition that non abs stops quicker is on a gravel like surface where the locked wheel with create a wedge for the car to stop against.

http://www.abs-education.org/faqs/faqindex.htm

can you point me to information that says that a non-abs car will stop quicker with a skilled driver?

mini-x 07-08-04 09:13 PM

dam dave the car looks sweet with the stock hood

bigmack000 07-08-04 10:03 PM

I love the blue so much my car is getting painted that color this wednesday.

Fd3BOOST 07-08-04 10:28 PM

Thanks for the nice words! I only removed the ABS to gain the space in the engine bay. I like not having that heat sheild there blocking the turbo and being able to easily acess the harness through the firewall. The ABS is pretty simple to take out, its making the new lines that is difficult. There is a how to pinned in the 3rd gen FAQ at nopistons. I got the idea from Vany Poo. :p

It's VERY impressive. And the engine bay looks very nice w/ all the crap removed. Very nice. Hopefully we'll see it at Rob's BBQ.

Chronologically or actual hours? :D

The car hasn't been driven since May of 1998. I bought a 20B for it in early '99 but I changed my mind and sold it. Meanwhile, I was driving and drag racing my Supra and couldn't be bothered to do much of anything with the FD.

Then in late '99 I started the V8 project and wasted a year or so waiting on my conversion parts from Grant Robbins of Granny's Speed Shop. I also wasted a year and a half having the engine built because I was being strung along by a thief named Mark Montalvo. During that time I sold the Supra and bought a Z06 Corvette and still couldn't be bothered to do much with the FD.

I work on it a little bit now and then, managed to get it repainted, developed my own engine cradle and '03+ Cobra 8.8" IRS conversion kit, finished about 75% of a sleek headlight kit, got my engine 95% complete, and made a dozen changes to the suspension as well as amassing most of the parts I need to finish it, but basically I just don't have a lot of spare time to work on it, and don't really feel like working on it when I do. :)

Ooops...yea you're right. Roy's. Loudazzrx7's. And yes, all the locals have seen the bling machine hehe

The doors are just that Dave...just doors. Might get an ooh or ahh for a second or two, then people are like "oh yea I saw that before..." and move on hehe. I need to get my engine bay finished...that's what's up.

Jim...not being anal, but so do you actually plan on finishing it up and keeping it? Or are you just slowly losing interest?

I'm not one for hunting down links but I think the more you look into it you will start to learn that it is not designed for shorter stopping distances, it is only designed to allow you to maintain steering or directional stability, it does have benefits no doubt under some circumstances, but It has been shown you can stop as short or shorter without it on dry conditions.

I'll eventually finish it, but I have no plans for competing in any form, so there's no real practical use for it, and no deadline to get it finished by. I really only have one day a week (when I'm not out of town) when I could do any major work on it and I usually have several other more pressing things that need to be done, so it just sits most of the time. Get yourself a wife, a 10-month old daughter, and a full time job and you'll understand. :)

KaiFD3S 07-08-04 11:55 PM

That is so sweet, ilove that blue, Hell i love your car...

Oh I wasn't implying that you're a bum and just don't wanna put effort into it lol. Just curious if you still *care* to finish it, or somewhere along the line you kinda lost the drive to finish it...that's all.

I still wanna hear about this when it's done!

rotoryspeeddreamz 07-09-04 12:48 AM

Since you guys like blue 7's here is my FD painted Mercedes SLK blue.

It was originally Montego Blue...

I'll finish it eventually, but let's just say that it's not high on my list of priorities these days. :)

My car was caught up in a hail storm a few years back. So most of the cost was picked u p by insurance. I paid $1200 out of my pocket to have them properly change the color, ie door sills, engine bay, etc. I think the total for the repair and paint was $6k or something close to that.

Looking good Dave,
Maybe one of you single-turbo equiped dudes can give me a 10-100 side by side run at the BBQ next weekend so i can see what i have to look forward to in a year or so.

Fd3BOOST 07-09-04 08:36 AM

I hope mine is straighted out by then. My manifold and exducer housing are at a machine shop right now. I was having trouble getting them to seal so I had to get them machined flat. The pedistols that is. Also I am still waiting on a new wastegate. But if i have my car then certainly. I would let you give it a test drive if you like.
