Another stupid 16 year old

Yea, thats me in the title, last night i was driving far too fast on a side street and a curve came up way too fast, i oversteered and spun out, hit a tree and fire hydrant, fire hydrant is dead. Yes i know, you dont have to say it, i know i am stupid, im lucky im still walking to tell you the truth, completely reckless on my part and i do take responsibility for it. I guess the one good thing to come out of this is that I am making all of your FD's a little more rare ;) I am parting out my car, the doors are fine as is the hood, and all the engine components are fine as well, fairly new stock turbos. Anything you want let me know. Thanks.

rfreeman27 11-15-04 06:15 PM

Is there any chance it can be fixed?

Dont just part one out right away!

btw i might want the trans if its a 5speed...miles? lol...

spekdah 11-15-04 06:16 PM

hmmm... Ive often though about going on a 'Kill every other FD in the world until mine is the only one left" crusade.

RooR 11-15-04 06:17 PM

was this your first car?

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:17 PM

I will take pics of it and u tell me if u think its worth it to fix it, other than that, the trans has 79,000 miles on it, works like a charm. (no, my second car, 1993 R1, I am really not one of those average 16 year olds tho, please dont think of me that way.)

rxseven07 11-15-04 06:18 PM

wow 16 with a FD?? Lucky sob.. ill stick to the first gens... i GUESS more easy to get a hold of... and handle

rescueranger 11-15-04 06:18 PM

sucks bro

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:19 PM

Yes, it does suck, a lot, i loved Melissa (my car's name Melissa Mazda) oh well, i will get some more money and get another hopefully.

rfreeman27 11-15-04 06:19 PM

what did the insurance company say?

please dont ruin another

btw i had a fd at 16 and never wrecked it...its a little thing called self control...

RotorJoe 11-15-04 06:20 PM

I’ll buy the whole car off you for the salvage cost from the insurance? :)

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:20 PM

Liability insurance only.

Unbelievable!

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:24 PM

Don't they only give you what the KBB value for the car is anyway?

r0gu3 11-15-04 06:25 PM

They will negotiate with you. Always keep receipts.

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:28 PM

I have an inordinate amount of receipts valuing over 20,000 for the car

RotorJoe 11-15-04 06:29 PM

For the most part. But it is a negotiation period and you will get enough cash back to buy another FD in most cases. From there swap parts.

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:31 PM

BELOW, sorry double post

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:32 PM

How much do you think i can get without comprehensive insurance? I was under the impression that i get nothing for my car if i only have liability.

RotorJoe 11-15-04 06:38 PM

I think that is correct.

Gibenstein 11-15-04 06:39 PM

Yes , if you only have liability it covers the other driver and not you. You basically have to part it. Welcome to my world.

Madmax670 11-15-04 06:44 PM

thanks gilbertstein, you understand my pain.

I do have to say it. That was really stupid. You must have read about others doing the same thing, and wrecking their beautiful cars. Too bad you had to learn the hard way. I'm sorry that your car is messed up. Hopefully it can be fixed eventually.

I'm glad to see that you are taking responsibility for this, and not trying to put the blame elsewhere. Glad you are OK, and I hope your future driving habits will be influenced by this event.

Nick13B 11-15-04 07:01 PM

I would of killed for an FD when I was 16 :)

probably would have drove it stupid, everyone drives that way until they get a ticket or crash luckily I got a ticket well two but one I got out of :)

HELL YEA. I have an FD and an FB, and I gotta tell ya, I don't really push my FD that hard lol. I leave that for the FB, cuz it's a LOT more predicatable, and a LOT more forgiving. When I become a pro about it, I'll slowly push the envelope a bit w/ the FD. But until then, I'm just tryin to keep her straight :)

Madmax670, I PMed ya.

oorx7 11-15-04 07:16 PM

I sent you a PM. Let me know were in chicago your located(in a pm). Again sorry to here this happened. Not to turn the thread into "I had my FD since I was ##" thread ,but I've had mine since I was 18 (1996).

seanbrowning 11-15-04 07:19 PM

Yeah, I was driving to school a few days ago and man I came close to being involved in a big accident(not my fault, and lucked out that I wasnt tailgating so I could stop!) Holy crap, it seriously changed my look on how to drive. So, I think that rude awakening gave me enough of a taste to keep my self in control! Can't wait for my FD! 17 in feb

marix1521 11-15-04 07:53 PM

what color is/was it? my friend will take the passenger headlight assembly and cover off of your hands....

GoodfellaFD3S 11-15-04 07:55 PM

When will parents learn not to get their little kids rwd turbo sports car? you should not have been behind the wheel to begin with.

Btw, Sled Driver, your post makes you look like a homophobe. congrats :thumbd:

Did you name your car??? If so, is it some cute-sy girl name?

IM all for don't ask & don't tell, but he opened the closet door with his commet.

1revn3rdgen 11-15-04 08:23 PM

Yeah, let's see some pics. The insurance companies dont give you blue book value, i've seen people trying to take their insurance companies to court to try and get the blue book value or what they think it's worth.Once they give you the money for your car you do have an option of buying the car back from then for about fraction of the value the only thing is that the car will hold a salvage title.

Bump bump bump....another one bites the dust!

Gibenstein 11-15-04 08:34 PM

I will state what was said in the last thread about me :
"Everyone becomes a perfect driver when it doesnt happen to them"
Great job guyz thinking your the only ones who care about these cars. I am sure he realized what he has done and to be followed by ridicule for posting his experience with death. Its amazing how much crap yall give him through the first 3 pages but yet one peron has asked if he was alright. So I will be the second to say Are you alright atleast ... A car can be replaced a person cant. Sure the probability of something happening in a fast car for a teenager increases but the odds are period that any teen can loose control of any car(especially there 1st car .... Like the kid who flipped a ford probe... whats that 40hp but stuff happens). Everyone learns at one point or in other.

edv 11-15-04 08:43 PM

When I was 16, the hot car to get was a Gremlin X . :D
You gotta know your limits, because a car like the FD usually has limits that exceed yours.
That's why it should not be a first car.

seanbrowning 11-15-04 08:52 PM

I just really enjoy how all of the people that mock the kid. He knows he screwed up, he didn't post to be told he is an idiot, maybe a little "man that sucks" would be more appropriate!

Well, its true that its not the best first car for a kid to have...but at least the kid is taking responsibility for it, and seems to have learned his lesson. And keep in mind that most people I see posting here about totalling their FD aren't teenagers - so age doesn't seem to be a huge factor in many FD accidents, just stupidity :p:

By the say, sorry to hear about your accident. Hopefully you're ok. And I don't get why everyone is bitching - every totalled FD makes our cars just that much more rare and special

VegasScotty 11-15-04 08:57 PM

man that sucks
-Scott

SPOautos 11-15-04 08:58 PM

Honestly if I had a FD at 16 I wouldnt be here typing cause I would have killed myself and the car. I thought I was responsible at 16 but looking back I know I wasnt. I know there are very mature 16 year olds out there but to be honest I dont think anyone 16 should be driving a FD.....no matter how mature they are. You just dont have the driving experience.

Case in point....your a mature 16yr old

Sorry to hear about it man, thats a lot of money down the drain

Stephen

jfxp 11-15-04 09:01 PM

Mine is named Roxy. Does that make me gay? I love women, and I love their breasts. But giving an automobile a female name makes me gay? It seems to be a very common thing to refer to things, from boats to cars, in female terms. I always hear people say "She's running great" or "she needs an oil change". I guess those people must all be gay too.

I'd be more suspicious of the guy that was SO worried about what other people think of the name he chose for his car that he had to name it something masculune - I mean, who really cares? It shows alot of insecurity

I don't understand why you would only have liability insurance on a vehicle that you (or your parents?) have put over $20K into. If it was for financial reasons and you wanted to save on insurance then you should have been driving a different car. It's too big of a risk to not have collision/comprehensive and if you're only 16, that should be even more reason to have the vehicle fully insured for an occasion just like this. Hopefully you'll learn from this experience and not make the same mistakes in your future. Glad you're physicallly o.k.

Madmax670 11-15-04 09:32 PM

Thank you to those who can understand that i loved my car to death and I wish i could rewind things and make them better, but i cant, sometimes the best way to learn is from our mistakes and i have made my share. And by the way im not some spoiled kid, i put every penny of my money into that car and i just screwed up.

I will post some pics when i pick the car up at the towing warehouse.

Railgun 11-15-04 09:44 PM

Did you ever make it to any meet (IE have I met you)? Where was this? How many miles on it? Since you're local and I need a tranny maybe we can work something out. When you get it back, can I come take a look? PM me.

If you only had liability, you won't see a penny. Sorry. Only collision coverage will help you in that respect.

danmc77 11-15-04 09:46 PM

Hey GoodfellaFD3S and Plan9... calm down about the gay thing. He was just making a joke. You guys must be the homophobes since you're so afraid of offending homosexuals.

Anyway, it sucks about your car. At least you're alright.

Madmax670 11-15-04 09:47 PM

Railgun, i met you for the last cruise we went on, i was the new guy with the black 93 R1

darkphantom 11-15-04 09:50 PM

Thats Fucked Up But As They Say You Learn From These Mistakes And This Was A Big One.

fastcarfreak 11-15-04 09:57 PM

not having collision on an FD is just retarded. Like you said, you learn from your mistakes, and good luck with getting some of your money back. meanwhile, im guessing that early 90s honda civic that so many teenagers have their eyes on is gonna have to do till you save up enough for another FD. Have fun.
