Question Another one down...update

Well...ask I expected, the insurance company said my car was not repairable and made me an initial offer of 20k for my 93 Touring. This is not set in stone and I am sending them additional documentation to up that to at least 23k. In the mean time the dealer that I bought the car from has a 93 R1 with only 7000 miles on it that he would sell me for 26K. The car will be here on Thursday for me to check-out. What do you think of that price? I paid 26.5 k for the Touring with 12500 miles on it .

Jesus where the hell do you find these low mileage cars?!

Good to hear that things are geting worked out. Some things that may help you in geting a little more out of your car would be reciepts for work performed as well as parts. If you don't have reciepts, some sort of documentation of the value of said parts and proof of ownership would help. Good luck.

Muller Honda in Highland Park, Illinois. Their used car department does a rather brisk business selling all kinds of sportscars - usually one owners. They have procured and sold a ton of FD's - at a price. One of their salesman has a photo album of RX-7's that he has sold. My sense is that alot of these low-mileage cars are coming out of collector's garages....and going right back in someone else's. They pride themselves in their ability to find low-mileage FD's from all over the US.

Any thoughts on the asking price for the R1?

I think it's a pretty fair price on the R1 givin that it's in immaculate condition. Maybe slightly over-priced but you aren't gonna get lower mileage than that. The lowest I've found was a silver 95 on autotrader, I think it was a PEP. Wanted like $30k for it and it had something like 10,000 original miles.

Anyway, how 'bout some contact info for this dealership?

If the car looks like it should for that low mileage then jump on it.

For a reference point, last year I paid $22k for a VR R1 with 20k miles. Half the people I talk to say I got ripped off, the other half say I got a great deal (usually the ones who see the car).

Question though - are you sure you still want such a low mileage car? Sometimes I feel guilty driving mine and wished I'd bought a few more miles.

I'm not totally sure I want to buy another FD. But if I do, I definitely want low-mileage. One consideration I have to take into account about purchasing the R1 is lack of cruise control. On occassion I have to commute about 170 miles to meet with my boss. I'm 6'2", 210 lbs. with long legs and a bit of cruise on the journey would be welcome.

Hell, if Muller has one that you want and is in similar condition as yours was, they have to give it to you. That's the beauty of Ill. ins. laws. If they total it, they have to buy a like model in the same or BETTER condition. I went through the same thing, though I made them gimme more money so I can fix it. I dragged it out for several months. Hope things work out for you!

Thanks...I test drove the R1 this morning and it was awesome. I've been driving a rented Taurus and the FD felt like home again. The dealership is in direct negotiation with my insurance company as an advocate on my behalf essentially making the same point that you have made. It's in their interest of course to make this happen so they can sell me another FD. So far , so good.

Muller honda F-cks u hard wen you offer them a car.. especially now.. i offered them a 37k mile car w/ 5k on the engine and they said 16..... even though they would sell it for 25... but then 3 months later, the same car had 40k miles and 8k on the engine and the new guy in charge offered me 14!!! i wouldnt buy it from them.. why not just buy it from they owner.. why should they pocket the extra 8 to 10 g's?
