Hey maybe you'll get upgraded to super mega pineapple port tomorrow to :)

RX794 11-06-03 12:53 AM

93BlackFD, let us know exactly what happened with your motor, and your experience at Pineapple, thanks.

Maroon 90_GT4 11-06-03 02:32 AM

Hey I'm In portland....Who did you come up with??? and What are you doing for fun while your here?? if you need anything to do let me know.

93BlackFD 11-06-03 09:40 AM

hey, maroon90GT4, call my cell 404-644-5412, we have to buy taxi's, etc, i brought my g/f (see my video thread of flames, she's the one w/ me)

we don't have anything to do, we check out of our hotel at 11am and from there we're screwed as far as a ride, getting dressed, eating, etc

so hit me up on the cell!! we're in the holiday inn right now but we'll be checked out soon and over at pineapple

93BlackFD 11-07-03 01:17 PM

okay well i'm back in atlanta now, here are some beginning pics

rob's truck, clean isn't it?

my motor waiting for autopsy

http://www.eek3.net/upload/files/DSCN1073.JPG

93BlackFD 11-07-03 01:22 PM

oil pan off, little bit of debris in the pickup tube...hmmmm

http://www.eek3.net/upload/files/DSCN1074.JPG

my clutch removed, bear in mind, 1500 miles on this setup....LOTS of wear hunh? let's investigate

http://www.eek3.net/upload/files/DSCN1075.JPG

notice the one side of the flywheel friction disc that is excessively worn, could that be a warped flywheel? but i thought racing beat was quality?? let's call them!

93BlackFD 11-07-03 01:30 PM

notice the scars on the side of the rotor and the bearing material on the center of the rotor

bearing failure, we're assuming oil starvation related

http://www.eek3.net/upload/files/DSCN1082.JPG
side plates are trashed

93BlackFD 11-07-03 01:35 PM

so we tested the pressure regulator, oil pump, eccentric shaft jets, pretty much the entire oil path, everything checked out okay, the rear rotor is the first to be oiled, so we really can't determine what happened

possible theories: bad bearings, loss of oil pressure (sudden), trash in oil, bad oil, etc- again, just theories

i'm glad it wasn't detonation related, although a hard detonation could throw the bearings off and break them if they're already brittle- another theory

i had to cover up the port work in all of the pics, rob's request, but everything i paid for in the motor was there...everything was explained to me and i'm 100% satisfied with their shop, setup, expertise, and hospitality, so now for some pics of the shop and other goodies

turbojeff 11-07-03 01:43 PM

Nice REPU! I saw that truck when it came back from the paint shop.

So your motor HAD the oil mods already?

93BlackFD 11-07-03 01:48 PM

yeah, i had the stage3 oil mods, and they were all present, he explained each and every one to me, i was very satisifed

93BlackFD 11-07-03 01:50 PM

Rotor housings anyone?

Did he cover your motor under warranty?
Great pics by the way.

pomanferrari 11-07-03 04:42 PM

Hey, several observations:

1. you have the orange silicone adhesive in the oil return line. Why use that stuff when there is a gasket there already? becareful with that stuff, it gets into the oil line and will cause engine damage. A friend threw a rod b/c of that stuff as he was overly paranoid about oil leak on the cam cover.

2. You don't have loctite glue on the flywheel to pressure plate screws: this is critical as the screws will loosen over time w/o loctite.

3. I'm running the same Pineapple clutch plate, RB flywheel and Centerforce Pressure plate: I feel that this clutch is not streetable, too much slippage required when hot. When cold, it's fine but when it's hot it's like a lightning switch. I'm going back to a full face clutch plate when this is worn out in like what 3 months?

GoRacer 11-07-03 05:50 PM

Thanks for sharing those pics. :bigthumb:
Gees, those rotors and housings look spotless compared to my 25k mi Mazda Reman'! My rotors had so much carbon, they looked like a burned fireplace log.

RX794 11-07-03 05:57 PM

So did the motor end up being covered by warranty or what?

93BlackFD 11-07-03 06:32 PM

rob has to tear it down further and look for further clues, we didn't really even talk about that- i assume it's warranty work

the orange stuff could do damage, but the pickup tube would filter any debris

Sure I did, had to heat them up to remove them

Well perhaps you should have your RB flywheel checked by Rob whenever you remove it, i'm sure RB would love to hear about another warped one

Nobody notices the weird aspects of the secondary runners on this motor? Lack of lower exhaust ports on the plates? Nobody notices? I feel like i'm taking crazy pills!

I forgot to mention, we loaded nocab72's port templates onto my motor- and started drawing bigger ideas :D

So through all these hardships, we'll see how this turns out
