air pump eliminator belt.
 

for those of you who have removed the air pump, what size and brand belt did you use to relace it? pettit has the size on their website for a dayco belt which a local pep boys carries but the site isnt working for me.

can you remove the airpump and anly replace the belt and not any pullies?

no you cant, like the link says above, you belt wont have enough grip on the water pump pully, so it wont turn it properly, and that could lead to over heating, which you dont want. i got after market pulleys they are close to the size of the greddy ones. my belt is 5pk780

my brother runs an r1 single turbo, is beautiful and has been running a shorter belt and no extra pully's has been working fine for years. i am abuoght to do the same thing try a shorter belt first it should work fine.

yea pettitracing sells the shorter belt by itself. most places just sell it in the pulley kit. I believe gothamracing and rx7.com both have the belt alone, but are much more expensive than the one at pettit.

Really? Is that why my car runs perfectly and doesnt overheat with the stock pullies and only a 4 rib belt?

I run a 295k4 by the way from advance autoparts

kuroi FD you said you have had no problems running that belt without pullies. i would much rather run without an airpump because it looks so much cleaner. what brand belt is that from advance auto

I dont know but just tell them its a 295k4 and they know what you mean. that means 29.5 inches and 4 for ribs

I'm using Pettit's.

It's probably just fine for the street. However, if you are ever in a situation, like a road course, where the rpms are constantly in the upper range for extended periods it will slip. Also, since the pullies are larger than stock, it does underdrive them a little which helps with coolant cavitation.
