is the aem air bypass valve any good?
 

i was talking to someone and he said that this is a POS, but then like he doesn't sound like he knows too much... so i'ma ask you guys... you guys seem to know most stuffers...

You want my opinion? It's the biggest piece of crap on the market, and AEM has done such a wonderful job with their marketing of it, that people actually believe it's useful. First of all, do you drive your car in lakes? How about creeks or rivers? Rain puddles that are deeper than a foot? I hope you're not asking about an AEM for a 3rd gen RX, but in case you are, is this intake going to be mounted where you plan on it being submerged in water? The Honda guys that run their "cold air" intakes next to the ground to get that "cold air" put those things in the intake piping so that if that filter is submerged in water, the engine won't pull the water in. First of all, that's a good uphill battle for water, and does a Honda pull that much compression (sorry, couldn't resist)? Second, by putting a foam piece between the pipe in the engine bay, doesn't you just pull in "hot air"? And third, when you get regular rain mist and drops hit your intake, it's not going to seize your engine even if it makes it all the way up the tubing and through the throttle body, intake manifold, etc... Wasn't it hot in that engine and that's why you wanted the "cold air" anyway?
I sell parts locally and the guys who insist their engine is going to blow up if they don't have it totally blow my mind with how much they believe what they're told to believe. But hey, I just smile and take their money. Anyone have some good evidence against my views? I would love to hear them.

I agree, looks like a load of $@#% to me. If you are driving your FD through a puddle deep enough to get a significant amount of water into your intake, you have bigger problems to worry about -- like floating away. In any case, I'd LOVE to see the evidence that anyone's engine has actually been damaged this way.

AEM air bypass valve? For the FD?? Hah, if it's anything like their ECU for the FD, your car will be 50 years old before they release it!! :noyes:
