Exclamation Adjusting TPS problem

i need to adjust my tps...i started it this afternoon. of course i had the phillips screws which are impossible to get to and i striped the bottom one. so i had to remove my throttle body and i went to the hardware store and bought the 7mm replacements. just put it back together and im not sure where to set the tps foe a base as to be able to drive it and warm it up enough to disable the fast idle cam. this way i can use my voltmeter and adjust it accordingly...why cant anything just be simple??? lol

Thanks in advance

mike

You do not have to warm up the engine to adjust the TPS.

You can disengage the fast idle cam by inserting a spacer between the adjusting screw and hot wax rod. This will disengage it just like pushing down on the lever by hand will do.

Make things easier!

Is it even possible to adjust the TPS with the TB off the car?

I understand you need to put the key to on to have 12V. So why not just have an isolated 12V source and just use gator clips or some wire and just adjust it when its off the car??

I mean it would be easier wouldnt it? Or is there something im missing?

If you look at the side of the TB facing the firewale and the lever and screw to the left of the TPS connector.

Well i meant for the rest of the car. Fuel pump gets 12V, all your acc gets 12V. So is this isolated power source a good idea or no??

I don't know if its a good idea or not but what I was saying is that the reference voltage for the tps is 5 volts not 12 volts.

For a base just set it near the middle.

Follow this write-up by Chuck Westbrook to get it fine tuned:

Make sure you reinstall it the correct way, it's a common mistake:
