ACT or centerforce clutch?

Which clutch should I use? My stock one is going out and I don't want to replace it with an OEM one. My car only has DP and exhaust right now.

I don't like centerforce, I had one and it wore out pretty quick. I've heard good things about ACT but never had one. Also check out SPEC Star clutches. Good quality and a few bucks cheaper than ACT. I had a SPEC in my car and loved it and felt it was very high quality.

I persoanlly have the ACT street clutch and it has held up to even my tough foot :D. IT is pretty stiff though so it takes some getting used to.

I have the ACT and it is a very nice clutch :)

Mo power to ACT! Iz da bomb y0z!

RX7Elmo 07-16-02 02:00 PM

ACT is very good and can easily hold the power. If you want to be a bit aggressive, u can opt for the 6-puck disk. Act is also very attractively priced.

Had ACT in my eclipse. I just put ACT in my FD. Thumbs up:bigthumb:

I have never heard anything bad about the ACT. I have heard several bad things about the centerforce. I went with the ACT a year ago and I love it.

I've had no problems with my ACT clutch. Only complaint that I've heard is that it didn't feel like it grabbed hard enough between shifts, felt stock.

I have had the centerforce for 6 months and it is not holding anymore, Im going with the ACT, I havent talked to anyone that has had a problem with one yet. I believe the Bonez (rx7.com) is actually made by ACT.. Check it out

Go ACT. I don't mind the centerforce, but the act is off the hook...LOL

chachidu 07-16-02 03:33 PM

Yo man, dont get a centerforce. I had it on my probe and as soon as I put in nitrous it wouldnt hold worth shit. it is the worst clutch ever...it wore out after a few months of tough driving....dont waste your money

Manolis_D 07-16-02 03:35 PM

ACT clutches are sweet :D I just put a street / strip in my 1990 TII... Engagement is a little snappier than stock (you can modulate / slip it nicely), but it'll GRAB if you want it to :)

ErnieT 07-16-02 03:40 PM

I've had the Centerforce and it didn't hold for more than 4months. I now have the ACT 6puck w/ the extreme pressure plate. It will handle anything you throw it. I also have used the ACT street/strip clutch with the extreme pressure plate. That is probably your best bet.

ACT all the way...

Haven't tried the ACT. Have had the CF for over 2 years. PFS installed it. Come to think of it, I wondered if it's truly a CF or a stocker that was swapped in place ala Monsen? It has a reddish paint so it must be the CF eh?

black99 07-16-02 04:25 PM

Centerforce should be a orangish paint..

If your planning on going single down the line should you just get a 6 puck clutch right away?

Mike

Oh here are my mods, single turbo in a few more months.

rx7tt95 07-16-02 08:29 PM

FWIW, I toased an ACT HD pressure plate with the OEM disk. I then switched to the Extreme ACT plate with an OEM disk. Holding up ok, but doesn't love the dragstrip. I do ok with it there.

I'd stay away from the 6-puck as it's a solid hub design which will generate more driveline shock, especially on the gearbox.

If I were you, I'd run the ACT extreme pressure plate with the Clutchmasters stage 3 or 4 clutch disk. Both are sprung hub carbon/kevlar and should be better than the organic OEM disk that ACT offers.

No, you only need the 6puck if you are going to drag race all the time. You'll need the ACT street/strip with the extreme pressure plate. This will suit your needs and then some.
