Check out this thread from JP3 on their r134a conversion stuff. I used their kit and expansion valve with an rx8 compressor and condenser. Works great.

Shoot us a message. We offer line kits for the FD that use the RX8 condenser and compressor.

I used their kit and really liked it.

I overhauled my original system myself about 2 months before this JP3 kit was available, and it was a real pain. I did have access to R12 which is why I did it. In my FB I did a straight r134a conversion and it blew cold on the highway but not at idle and I'd expect similar results with the original FD system on 134a.

I also helped install a JP3 kit in a friend's car after that, and let me tell you that kit is the way to go. Top-notch quality across the board and very well thought out. I really wish it had been out when I redid my system, or that I'd procrastinated a bit longer on my own AC so I could have gone that route. Having done AC in a few RX7s now I can highly recommend that kit. Just do that and save yourself a bunch of headaches or a sub-par AC system.
