ABS Problem

I have a US 93 equivalent FD (hence no ABS tester can be used)

My ABS light comes on from time to time (can stay off for 3 months) and turns off on its own. Obviously, during this time, the ABS is not active

I think this might be weather related

Do you have any idea what component might be problematic

I thank you all in advance

Well I had some similar situation, however mine is more or less related to the fuse. On the firewall, there is a fuse for rear wiper, ABS, and heater/air blower I think. For me apparently this little fise gets loose and my ABS comes on, the blower doesn't work and my rear wiper doesn't work. If I pull the fuse in and out it usually fixes it. This might not be your problem, but check and make sure if everything else is working, if not it might all be realted to one blown or loose fuse. This might not help, but it is definitely a good starting point when trying to isolate a problem.
Check the manual for which fuse that is, I think its a 15A, and you should have a replacement for that in the cover of the fuse box.
Good luck, hopefully your problem is this easy.

sorry when the wiper and blower dont work, the ABS LIGHT comes on, ABS doesn't kick in, that would be disasterous!

Once you have checked the fuse/power you can move on to the wheel sensors. Notice the cables go right along the "A" arms, and can be damaged by debris in the wheel well. You can check the sensors with an ohm meter. They are just coils of wire wrapped around a magnet. When the toothed wheel passes the magnet it imparts a small AC signal on the coil. All you need to check for is resistance (around 1k ohm) on the coils. The connectors are under the hood for the fronts. You can also check most parts of the ABS module with an ohm meter (as per the workshop manual - on line at iluvmyrx7.com). If one of the toothed wheels is coated with metal fileings (unlikely but stranger things have happened) it will upset the ABS control unit. You can blow them clean with compressed air.

Good luck.

When does the ABS light come on??? That can give you an idea of what to look for. If it comes on as soon as you start the car, then look for power problems to the ABS unit (bad connection, fuse, etc). If it doesn't come on until the car starts moving, then it is probably an intermittent wheel sensor, or a bad connection to a sensor.

My light was always on, turned out to be 2 cut wires at the ABS computer (in the trunk).
