? about V-MOUNT setup
hey guys i have a chance to really get a good deal on a dragon v-mount set up, but i was told by another member that i would have to buy the radiator that comes with the set up, ? 1. am i just paying for the brackets and I/C. ? 2. i have a mazda comp radiatior that i really dont want to part with, so will this radiator work with any v-mount set up\. thanks
you can pretty much make any radiator and IC work.... the brackets definantly need to be made and if I remember corectly you "may" have to relocate the drain? if it sticks out... for ground clearence.... er something like that...god I can't remember... do you have a pic of your radiator? also you may have to do some funky custom piping for both the intercooler AND the radiator if the frame or other crap is in the way....
so to answer your question....maybe...lol I'll look for a pic so I can see how yours is oriented... I'm guessing everything is like a stock one? |
you would think that if you are buying a v-mount setup it should come with radiator.
dragon vmount? i've never heard of them. do they have a website or any pics??
unless u have a welder and fabrication skills, u need to buy the radiator that comes with the v-mount. reason being vmount uses modified radiator that has both hose pipes on the top versus one on top and one on bottom for normal applications. |
hey man ive been trying to get a hold of dragon racing for the v-mount how did u get ahold of them thanks
hey thanks guys for the info, just that i dont have a pic the radiator is on the car, but its the mazda comp radiator that has the fins built in to hold the air flow in front and not let it pass around the radiator.

Well thats what this post was for, i have never heard of others saying anything about the radiator, just only the I/C. So that is why im THINKING! |
you can make your own setup for cheaper and easier.
FOUND A PIC THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS.

Hey Jaiy Do You Have A Timplate Or Drawing That Would Help Me
.
What Was That Kinetik Lol
i answered to post #11 but didn't notice that you had asked Jaiyurai so that was my attempt to remove my post:pow:
so does anybody have a play by play on how to make your own setup, also just to make it clear, i know that im not the only one that wants to know about the ? being asked. so can i use any radiator with any core. or does it have to be same radiator and same core.
have you done a search or seen my v-mount thread?, i have explained this a few times, any aluminum FD radiator will for any v-mount you just have to modify the in/outlets to route the hoses and make mounts for the rad.
I think there is a V-mount setup in the works that should be pretty nice :) With any luck the project should be done by spring time.
cool, that V-mount IC looks really nice.... all except the gay dragon logo spray painted on it
hahah i kinda like the sisco thong/song look NOOOOOOTTTTT!!!!!! just playing thanks for hittin on my ?'s but i was looking for a step by step guid to doing it yourself, i know that might be a lil hard to do since its allready fabbed, but it never hurts to ask. it would be cool, if it was in video format. that would be some really a good money maker * hint * hint *
hey kintek were in diego are you i use to live there up in north county, played football for palomar
i live by the downtown area, unless you can tig aluminum it would be easier to buy the dragon radiator made for their kit than to have your radiator modded to work, as for the dragon logo just spray some brake cleaner on it and it will come right off.
here's the link to Kinetik's thread on his vmount if u haven't seen it yet.
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/my-custom-v-mount-pics-465153/ Its the best vmount setup i've seen. I still get a boner from looking at it. its better than porn... lol |
wowwwwwwww very nice, yea i thinkim going to just buy there setup, and sell my mazda comp radiator. thanks again.
yeah that setup is sexy
Where did you hear that you needed to buy the extra radiator from??
The dragon v-mount kit is made by an english company called radtec and you get: 1.) Intercooler (size depends on turbo? either twins or single) 2.) Radiator 3.) Brackets 4.) Intercooler pipes and radiator hoses |
You do realize that 950 english pounds is damned near $1900 right... plus overseas shipping for a fairly large item?
there will probably be another thread started for this but..... How many of you would prefer a v-mount designed for a car with A/C or without A/C?

well yes i did the conversion, an shipment it would still come out cheaper than buying a greddy vmount or RE kit. i dont have the skill of tig welding alum, so i have to work with what i got loloool. i would happly pay someone that could do as good a job as my K- diggy did. he said 800 was the cost for him i would be happy to shoot $1000- $1500 for the work done, and supply the parts. |
I think the price is fair. I would not attempt a V mount for someone for fewer than 1,800 and I would expect to charge as much as 3k for the job.
Allot of it comes down to if you want a custom fabed look or a factory look. In all honestly I am not very impressed with the dragon kit, well not at all frankly. The welds however are nice machine welds. What hood will you be using? |

If you contact Dragon ask for a guy called Ross, he owns the company, maybe he can send you out the kit minus the radtec radiator?? Might save you some $$$ |

What hood will you be using? oh and the $1000 - $1500 was just a number that i threw out, this is all new to me and i was just getting feedback, and im doing the same thing that i did before i bought my 7, and that was to gather as much info as i could before i dove into the wonderfull world of the FD zone. it has helped because im on 126,895 OEM miles. lol |
unless the hood is ducted I believe it will be a induction hood serving no purpose for a v-mount application. I can't really say thats a bad idea since my hood isn't ducted yet, but if you're looking to save money....don't waste it on a hood.
dragon setup is so nice.
Knight Sports setup is nice too, and it comes with the radiator, and it's about $2,700 but I don't know about how much it would be shipped.
