98 mitsu GSX vs 93 FD

hey all, in about a week I have a race against a stupid DSM owner who wont stop talking shit cuz I ran a 14.01 the first time ive ever been to the track with ahorrible launch and two mis-shifts.

So finally he wants to race me

My mods are, 78k original miles

Apexi intake,
downpipe
SBC-ID boost controller
H&R lowering springs
8mm magnacore wires
plat plugs lol

running 10.4 pounds of boost.

and I can drive. I managed to hang with a wrx that ran an 12.9 on the track from a roll, and my launches are decent cuz its somewhat hard when the weather is 20-40 degree's outside.

his mods are
Intake, exhaust lowering springs manual boost controller blow off valve, and I think he'll be running around 16-17 pounds of boost if he wants to push it.

Any pointers or who u think should win? I mean I know I should win hands down, and the only reason Im drag racing (I personally think its retarded, I road race myself ) is because I want his stupid ass to shut up.

Any pointers or comments?

Steve

From a stop you should be able to pull him by the top of 3rd at the latest. At a roll you'd pull from the start. He's probably pushing about 280 fwhp, so with AWD like 240 to the wheels. You should be about the same hp numbers but less drivetrain loss and you've got about 600 lbs less.

kwikrx7 02-24-03 06:40 AM

If you're going to race a GSX then make sure you give yourself some distance to reel him in - I'd make sure you race to about 120 mph - AWD will kill his top end - that's why you hung with the 12.9 sec WRX from a roll - not because you're that good of a driver, but even a 12.9 WRX might only trap 101-103 mph at the most which is about where you are running stock boost with 2 mods. It would be best if you started from a roll but you should definitely win if you drag, just don't let him talk you into going to the top of second.

good luck but just dont under estimate him... i know some DSM guys that are sneeky... he might be faster then you think...

I dont see him pushing past 17psi on a stock motor and injectors, if he knows whats good for him, so you should get him, the info. on this thread is good, his weight and loss to the wheels and you should reel him in. But man do those things bolt off the line.

Engberg 02-24-03 10:05 AM

I don't understand why, with those mods and an estimated 260ish horse it would be all that fast. The AWD model runs to 60 in about 7 seconds. I would think to pace a stock FD they would need about 300 horse in that flabby body with AWD...but I could be wrong.

Snook 02-24-03 10:50 AM

I don't think you ran a 14.01 with a bad launch and 2 misshifts. With one misshift you would run in the 15s and who has a bad launch and 2 misshifts in one ruN?!! good driver my ass. I think with your 2 mods and a 2 flat 60 time and good shifting you could get a 13.5 at best.

Sorry but the DSM guy is probably gonna take you
Usually DSM guys are cool though so it's alright

Rx-7$4$me 02-24-03 12:04 PM

the mis-shifts were right at the end, and I still got it into gear, I just let the clutch out to quickly so I had to push it back in and get the shifter in. This was 2 months afterI got my FD over a YEAR ago, so alot has changed since then, or do you not think its possible to get better huh?

Rx-7$4$me 02-24-03 12:06 PM

who are you to say what I ran anyway? if u want the stupid time slip I'll show u. it was my first run EVER at the track, and the best one of the night out of 5 runs, again over a year ago, and a month or two after I got my FD. I was still getting used to it.

Rx-7$4$me 02-24-03 12:14 PM

he also has a stage two clutch, short shifter and possibly a lightened flywheel

boostedrotor 02-24-03 01:38 PM

you should take him with your lowered springs....

Yeah, he is going to murder you off the line. My last car was an S4, and I could demolish anything off the line, but top end was shit, especially when you are pushing 4000 pounds of German engineering. Generally the GSX guys aren't to ricey either, so this guy might be serious.

I'm not bustin' your balls or anything, but if your best run of the night was from a shitty launch and two misshifts, somethin' ain't right! :)

Snook 02-24-03 03:49 PM

I know about getting used to the car. I got used to mine after one run at the track after owning it for a month...from the second time and on it was simple it was just the launch I've never missed a gear really
I think its possible to get better in a year but I don't think you have that touch like me
I think that the dsm is going to win because of the car not the driver. dsm owners really know their shit though and they always help each other out with working on cars. Too bad fd owners aren't like this.

good luck with the race let us know what happens and don't talk trash back to the punk just race him!

Kyro-2 02-24-03 04:06 PM

Steve you forgot about his 10 foot wing! hes goin to kill you..

DBreeze 02-24-03 04:31 PM

Snook,
Where do you get off saying "DSM owners really know their shit though and they always help each other out with working on cars. [B]Too bad FD owners aren't like this."[B/] Do I have to count every time you have said "thanx for the help guys" on this forum?
Rx-7$4$me,
All I have to say for advice is "show this DSM guy what the back side of a FD looks like from afar, don't gloat, and for god sakes don't bet over $50 on the race." I say $50 because its not enough for you to worry about and its not enough to piss off the DSM guy for loosen.

you can really say that now cant you? seeing as you know me like your my mother through a computer screen?

I have mis-shifted maybe once or twice in like the past 6 months, maybe I do have the "touch" like you do.

well, I admit it was crappy haha :) but the rest of the launches I was trying out different forms of launching, some got me 14.1's and such, but it was busy that night nd I only got in 4-5 runs total in about 50 degree weather.

you should take him with your lowered springs....
actually tht will help me some with launching.See, the person tht drives this car is 17 years old, so I believe tht should help me somewht as he never drives his car tht hard.

Im not going to rce him for money or anything, I dont even drag race tht much, I just helped this guy to install alot of stuff on his car, and he shows respect by talking shit behind my back, so instead ofjacking him or somthing, I thought Id put his words back up his asshole.

TTurboXfd3s 02-24-03 08:19 PM

all u need to do to take him is get a good launch! it probably wont be as good as his, but as long as you're like right behind him, you got him! and you'll start pulling quick! and get him ( from experience) and try not to misshift this time ;)

Snook 02-24-03 09:50 PM

Like I said good luck with the race but nobody has the touch like me haha relax man.

In general I've noticed that owners of cars like 3d gens or porshes are less willing to work on their cars or especially help other owners work on theirs. DSM guys and 1st and 2nd gen guys seem like they would be more friendly in helping and I've witnessed that.

I guess Id agree with you, but DSM owners to me, at least around here they are all assholes

Im 17 18 in april and all the mods ive done I did myself, all of it

see sig

Sl0w7 02-24-03 11:05 PM

umm great that you are doing your own shit but that is really not all that much... anyway i just want to see who wins this race... you should get some video tape or some pics at least...

Rx-7$4$me 02-25-03 12:19 AM

I thought being able to install lowering springs, and the vacuum line job at 17 was pretty good. I guess im wrong.

FastAZFD3S 02-25-03 12:29 AM

You're goin to kick his ass. I had a 97 Eclipse with a shit load done to it, and it was still slow. Don't worry the stock turbo on the eclipse can only hold about 10 -13 psi and fall off.

Sl0w7 02-25-03 08:34 AM

is it a stock turbo though??? dont be fooled, some of those upgrades for the DSM's look stock but can make some power...
