Very sorry about your loss:( Glad you are ok. Good luck with insurance:)

mr2jzgte 06-29-06 12:43 AM

I so sorry for your loss. Those little fire extinguishers don't do the job... not even at a family picnic. I hope your insurance is kind to you, and you can get back on your feet very soon.

All the best.

I bet 5 out of 10 people would have literaly sprayed their shorts after that baby fireballed. I feel terrible for you man, I couldnt even imagine the horror you experienced when the extinguisher quit.

Best of luck with your next project.

Very sorry to see this! Thank you for tellin me those lil extingushers dont really do much. I'm goin to throw in one of those house ones in.. maybe 2. GL in the future, after the breakin down part, this is why I hate rx7's but they're so good looking.

rjcs03 06-29-06 01:18 AM

RX7JCHIII 06-29-06 01:26 AM

sorry bro!!

sevensix 06-29-06 01:49 AM

a lot of fires this year.. time to seriously consider a better alternative to cheap extinguishers... like the one i have :( halon is sounding good now..

DCrosby 06-29-06 01:55 AM

The fuel rail recall is important to complete, but the Fuel Pulsation dampeners I've seen from '93 & '94 are the same, Round metal "Ceg" looking thing with a rubber nipple, that fails due to that rubber eventually gets old / and addetives to the fuel deteriorate the rubber... The only true "alternative" i've seen is an aftermarket fuel rail, and Fuel Pressure Regulator, of which the aeromotive are supposed to have a pulsation reduction chamber or something in them to reduce the pressure waves from primaries / secondaries opening at different intervals.... which is mostly what that thing is for... to reduce pressure waves from killing your injectors...

If you have a stock one, replacing it at least every 50-60k miles is a very good precautionary measure...

Sorry about the car man, it does look like it'd be a fun track car... once rebuilt...

Man I'm really sorry to hear of this... :(

Boston94FD 06-29-06 03:19 AM

That is horrible! At least your ok, the car is replaceable.

rotariesrule 06-29-06 07:13 AM

sorry about your car.

i guess there are four possible causes 1) fuel pulsation dampener 2) fuel line 3) old injector grommets and o-rings 4)wrong size injector grommets and o-rings, use only mazda 0-rings and grommets when you get your injectors cleaned.

dubulup 06-29-06 07:32 AM

man, that is scary!! glad you are okay...DAAYEM!

The fact is, these are old cars with the fuel distribution system sitting right near two hot turbos and a downpipe. Unless you have a completely stock car you would not have grounds for a law suit. From what I read about the fuel leak recall, they made the hose thicker to withstand higher temps. What Ray mentioned to me was that they used a different type of fitting on the ends of the hose in 94. Whether that was part of the fuel leak recall I don't know. Maybe some of the experts could shed some light on this.
Fire extinguishers - the one the bus driver handed me was a chemical one. It worked very well, but I spent the better part of a day vacuuming yellow powder from the engine compartment!

rotorbrain 06-29-06 10:06 AM

wow, ive never seen anybody post pictures of the car ACTUALLY on fire!!!! thats a keeper of a picture if ive ever seen one.

it does suck, though. . . and i hate to see that happen. im horribly sorry for your loss. i dont know WHAT id do if my car did that!!!

Back to the FPD. was this design ever changed by Mazda, or is it a "wear' item that needs replacement at some interval.
