'93 Build Progress PICS
Well, to make a looooooong story short:
I bought my FD w/ 130k miles on it, orig. motor, stock everything except for intake / exhaust... I blew my engine back in December '06. I bought a jdm engine from Zerolift Autolab in Fairfield, OH which turned out to be garbage, sued Zerolift, got money back, and started buying a new engine piece by piece.... (and waaaayyyy too much other stuff) Here's some pics: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...P1010010-1.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...t/P1010003.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...t/P1010002.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...t/P1010001.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...t/P1010013.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...t/P1010012.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...P1010011-1.jpg Here's the list of parts: (I'm sure I'm forgetting more than a few things) Engine Atkins Rotary Master Rebuild Kit Rotary Aviation 2mm Super Seals Rotary Aviation "Race" Seal Springs Mazda Competition Rotor Bearings Window Stationary Gear Bearings 2 Brand New Rotor Housings 2 Brand New Rotors Brand New E-Shaft New water pump Greddy Air Pump Pulley Delete Kit Mazdaspeed motor mounts Turbos Dynatech Corp. I just want to see it run again, it's been wayyyy too long. The engine's back in the car now, just have install everything else. Everything was sand-blasted; it's all pretty - I hope it runs.... Wish me luck... ~Brent |
looks good dude. keep us posted

Looks awesome!
Is it just me or do you have your Y-pipe on backwards as shown in the last pic? |

lol i was looking at the pics thinking, wait is the motor backwards? wtf is wrong with the Y pipe...oh, its backwards
:wallbash: lol, yeah it was on backwards in that pic. fret not, it's been corrected....
Now I'm just trying to figure out what other little things I've either forgotten or should do... Hose Techniques viton hoses are on the way, what else? Financial Disaster :101384_l: |
Nice looking motor there. With the sort of horsepower you're going to produce I'd look at upgrading the suspension to prevent wheel hop. Trailing arms, toe links, and upgraded rear diff bushings should do the trick. I can't tell from the pictures but I'd replace all the smaller coolant lines such as the ones going to turbos, the AST, and the throttle body if they're more than a few years old while you're at it.

Nice pictures, I would change the plastic oil injector lines with braided SS lines. These plastic lines tend to get brittle and crack with time.
I would also replace the stock oil injectors if you still have them with the upgraded ones. The stock ones has the tendency of "starvation" during high boosting conditions when the Apex seals need lube the most. Unless you tend to use premix cycle oil in your gas, then disregard changing the injectors. Yeah, when I got my reman engine installed, I also replaced the coolant lines, especially the turbos, they're a bitch to do with the engine in car. Good luck on your project and hope to see another FD being on the road again! |
very nice glad you got the money back from the jdm engine.

maybe someone with a similar build could give me a horsepower estimate? |
I'm guessing you'll have somewhere around 330-350HP to the wheels. I'm getting around 320HP to the wheels with a stock motor, stock twins, downpipe, high flow cat, airinx intake, 12PSI, Greddy FMIC, denso fuel pump, RB catback, and PFC tuned by Steve Kan.

keep up the good work
haha...u got fucked my mike bailey at Zerolift too lol. I bought a motor from him once and it turned out to be the wrong one. Got my money back though.
And i knew him before he had his shop in fairfield. Back when he was dealing out of his dad's garage. Nice guy, terrible business man.
lol true true....
he tried fucking me royally gave me false tracking numbers, kept saying the motor was shipped, avoiding phone calls, etc.... when i finally got one there was no compression in one of the rotors. it took a lawsuit to refund the money. fuck you mr. mike bailey. ....no hard feelings though :) |
Still not finished yet. Nickel & Dime shit keeps getting in the way. Here's some new pics...

^great work, man. I really like those oil coolers, too.
thanks :)
sweet work, love the dual oil cooler, where did you get .
i bought them from a forum member
They look like gotham racing coolers, those bitches need ducting big time...they are sitting WAY back.
they're Mocal and yes i know they'll need ducting. I don't plan on keeping the stock bumper. When it's changed I'll do the appropriate ducting...
should be fun :)
OP, Is that your gas mask on the floor under the stool in the third pic? tisk, tisk!
;) |

yeah.... about that.....
looks good, but why go with OEM OMP lines? Those plastic lines are garbage.
Build is looking great man. Will be worth it once it is on the road again.

Nice job bro! If you spent $12k, I don't want to know how much I've spent so far and, still have more spending to do. I did'nt want to see my receipts 'cause I would've definately had my wife kick me in the ass after adding them up! Waiting on final pics.....
Nice...congrats on getting it running, I just finished mine a couple of days ago
it might sound like a pissed off wiffle bat.... but it runs!
