93-95 Rx7s are by far, the best looking sports cars for the value. You can pick up a clean rx7 for like 16k and get so much respect for it. Everyone is always checking them out, they are beautiful cars, and chicks jock them.

They are quick and they compete with the supra and nsx in style, handling and 1/4 mile times.

yea well if i had an FD im sure i would be like "fuck yeah" the entire time while driving it, and i would walk outside numerous times a day just to stare at it... however i dont have mine YET :( so i guess i just dont know the feeling... but i do get out of my 99 Si, walk away, turn around and say, "fuck, i want an FD:("

Having owned my 2nd FD since I had my last one at 17, nothing beats the shit out of an RX7.

The styling of the FD3S has gone through tons of phases and prototypes before acutally going throught the manufacturing processes....

All these modelling and planning took place back in 1989 believe or not.

It took the Mazda team 4 years to put this driving machine we all adore.

The curves, and rear windshield, the time, effort and pain to reduce the weight while maintaing the luxurious aspect (which most of us would have skipped!)

Find another Twin Turbo car that was manufactured back in 1989 that comes with standard BOVs......

Not to say I do not adore the Supra, 300ZX or 3000GT for that matter....I myself own a 300ZX and love the curves too....

It's not wrong to love other sports cars as a mix of visual stimulation is better than seeing a whole street of FD3S....

Love it or leave it...FD3S is getting harder to come by and I hope that Mazda will do something about it before all of the North Americans spend their crap money on some project that takes 1 or 2 years to complete....

On my way to finding a 2nd FD.....my plans are to fully modify one while keeping the other stock......


On that note: You guys who do have a car alarm, better go get the Master Lock Steering Wheel lock. (94 and 95 --> grab the air bag lock)

Yeah!...A Supra's performance is unquestionable but they are so bland looking outside....After almost a decade, I STILL get people asking me what type of car that is and how cool it looks - and its got dents in it.

And most girls don't care about ETs anyways. They want a sexy looking car. For under a $100k and still with performance that's pretty much a FD, Viper and to most girls an NSX. (Sorry Vette owners...they associate that with balding 40 somethings yearning for youth). M3s actually fare well here too with the professional chicks.

As far as looks go I totally agree that its the best bang for the buck... but as far as speed I'd have to say a Z28 would be better as far as the price. I wanted a Z28 until I realized that EVERYONE and their brother have one. That goes for Mustangs too. RX7s are rare and unique and have killer looks and matching performance. That's exactly why I'm looking for one right now.

in response to your comment, i totally agree, with my senior year approaching i have a decision to make in what car to get in the coming 6 months and after contemplating over an RX-7 and a Z28 forever, my mind finally went to the RX-7 simply because im a huge fan of turbos and the fact that the car adds looks with performance is a plus, also knowin everybody and their mom doesnt own one helps...

Vr4s arent even close...I wouldnt say they're ugly but there's no way in hell you can compare them to FDs.

Good ol' american japanese cars. But I'm being nitpicky. As far as who would get the most chicks, I'm going to have to play devil's advocate and say the supra.

Why?

Because sports cars have been called phallic extensions, and the mkiv supra looks a lot like a giant dildo, albeit a very sleek & fast one. Plus all females saw Paul Walker drive it in the F&F, so by association, some of it rubs off on supra drivers.

It's funny, actually, that I worked with a guy with a NA 3000gt, and he consistently insisted that he could beat me. I never tried to race him. I really didn't want to embaress him. I mean, almost EVERYONE in my office new I would spank the living shit out of his 3000gt. I must say, his 3000GT DID have a nice blue metallic factory paint job, though, but I would constantly scrutinize it. It had numerous USLESS scoops on its side and a ton of plastic side cladding on it. The 3000GT is a nice car trying to look cool. The FD is allready a cool looking car.

Exactly my thoughts, funny that this thread came up today too because I saw one over the weekend. I'm looking in my rearview mirror thinking, 'what the hell is that useless junk on his hood?'.. you know those tacky little scoops on each side near the top of the hood. It's like a Japanese Pontiac.

And for you guys who say the rx7 is better looking......thats an opinion. They are nice cars but with 16 inch wheels and too high off the ground....they just look like miatas to me. But its good that you guys stick up for your cars!! :D

And as for useless side vents.....well actually they are far from useless. Those side vents actually transfer air to the brakes to cool them off. So you say everything with design is useless? So that side swoop on your front side is just ugly cuz its useless? Cmon lets be real here....design is design whether its design is useless or not. In this case the 3000gts design is useful and the rx7s design is useless. So why don't you all just wuit making fun of yourself and your cars?

Well seeing as I design buildings every day I feel like I am qualified to comment on this. Design is not design, that is why people who are good designers get paid to do so.. and those who are not, well they aren't designers. There is a huge range between good design and bad design.. what is good and bad is a matter of opinion when we are talking about aesthetics. Now when a design becomes 'functional' is when it takes on another meaning, combine that with something of beauty.. now that is good design. The opposite of that to me is tacking things onto a design to make it appear like it is functional... like those damn hood scoops on Mustangs. That is why the RX-7 is viewed as a 'good' design by many, because much of the aesthetic shape actually serves a purpose. The double bubble roof to lessen air turblance behind the car, the oil cooler openings in the front bumper that then exit in front of the doors.. the curves are subtle but useful. Just my 2 cents.

diamond, i'm in the sewer (sioux city), not too far away. every once in a while my car buddies and i will take a trip to des moines to visit some buddies at school... don't have an FD yet, it gets shipped on wed, then they say 10-12 days from then, so not too much longer. dunno if you know anything about the models of the RX-7, but it's an R2 (pretty schnazzy:biggrin)... anyways we should stay in touch and i'll get a caravan together to come visit...lot of ricers, imports whatever in ft. dodge?

When you look at all the cars side by side (RX7, 300Z, VR4. or Supra) the FD always has that pure sports car look. Mazda really overdid themselves with the lines on the FD. The VR4 is not ugly at all - it does have a lot of scoops and "useless" claddings on the body but really is one of the most technologically advanced cars made. I agree the FD with 16s sits too high and does look like a Miata on steroids. Throw some 17s or 18s on their with a spoiler (stock spoiler is fine) and you have a pure head-snapper.

Supras look like the Rocketter! Seriously look at'em and then look at the rocketter.

There's one thing about Supras that's better than FDs IMO. The roof (especially the rear windshield area) just flows and looks real smooth. Better looking than the roof of an FD IMO. As far as the front ends? FDs look better. The sides? FDs. The ass? Hard to say. Roof? Supra.
