3rd Gen Problems...
My buddy has a 93 rx-7 and he's having some problems... I didn't have time to search, so please bare with me.
He told me that it barely idles, but when it does, it sounds like it's ready to die. He checked all the vaccuum lines and they were all connected. The turbo sometimes does not feel or sound like it's spooling when you rev it up a few times at high rpm. He only has 56,000 miles on it. Two years ago, he replaced the exhaust manifold, spark plugs (which looked fine), and the entire cooling system. The fuel filter and turbo were replaced last year. His car was running very well before this happened. He said he took it out for a spin and as it was passing 6,000 rpm, the engine seemed like it backed down or like he hit the regulator. He has a welded-on blow-off valve, downpipe, exhaust, and a stage 1 clutch. I felt that I should list his mods just in case they could be a cause of the problem, or at least a symptom. Sorry for the long post... Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark. |
Check the compression and see if that is still up to par.

check the map sensor and make sure its still plugged in. the hose tends to fall off.
its located near the intake elbow attached to the L of the throttle body. looks like a little retangular plastic box.. like 1 inch by 3/4 inch and mounted on a bracket. |

That's your answer. 1) check the MAP 2) check the compression.
There are more details on both in the FAQ - no need to even search. Dave |
