1993 RX7 for sale... scam?

5 Attachment(s)
Hey guys I recently came across a car on autotrader for $4600. I talked to the woman who says she is in England. She says the car is in good running order with about 100,000 miles always been garage kept and all. She sent me pictures of the car, I just wanted to know if this car is legit or if she got pictures of this car somewhere on the web. It seems to me an extremly good deal or a scam... I just wanted some input. Thanks guys.

yuichiror 12-22-05 04:51 PM

I smell scam!!! I'm sure if you do a search here you'll find similiar offers that are scams....

MazdaLove 12-22-05 04:52 PM

Sounds fishy...with all those exterior mods....Does she have a VIN number for you? Is the $$ in pounds or USD?? It's in England?? Tread carefully.......

Here is another picture she gave me, thanks again guys!

Scrapiron7 12-22-05 04:54 PM

Yeah it's legit. I also have a bridge for sale if you need one.

Robbierx7 12-22-05 04:56 PM

i would say it`s a scam also. I dont know of a woman in the uk with that actual car who is a member of any of the uk forums. Also take a look at the white car in the background..it has a white rear plate..england have yellow rear plates..why would she want a left hooker in the uk when we drive right hookers?

sehnsucht_musik 12-22-05 04:57 PM

That is sort of what I was thinking myself, the pictures to me almost look familiar. The price is in USD she claims that she moved from New York to England and priced the car to sell, I am not clear on the present location though. She seems really antsy to get it sold, she said she would like it done before Christmas which I do not believe will happen either way.

Thanks guys, any other input?

Bad_Karma7 12-22-05 04:58 PM

That car looks familiar, can't quite put my finger on where I've seen it before. I think there were some scams a little while back like this. People based in England, something about them not wanting to ship it...can't really remember.

Monkman33 12-22-05 04:59 PM

I was looking into one of these, and the seller sent em an email to do the transaction through squaretrade. Each email looked perfect in every way, grammar was right, looked like it came from squaretrade, everything. It wasn't untill I checked on the case number that I found out it was a scam. Be VERY apprehensive about sending money anywhere. 99% of out-of-country cars for sale are scams, it's absolutely mind-boggling. Also, if the price is too good to be true, then it is. People that have these cars know what they have. They dont's just dump them off for under 5k when they are in great condition. Even a perfect condition FD with a blown engine is worth more than that.

As for the pictures:

Ask her why she has a left hand drive car in England. VIN, would they be willing to use an escrow service of YOUR choice, not there's for reasons of above explained scam.

sehnsucht_musik 12-22-05 04:59 PM

That is kind of what I had figured... When I checked on autotrader it said New York, but she pulled the post down so I couldnt recheck it. If you want I can post some of the emails

sehnsucht_musik 12-22-05 05:01 PM

Squaretrade huh? This is the first email she sent me....
She also hasnt given me a vin number yet, or much information about the car in general.

CodyHokieFD 12-22-05 05:30 PM

Is that a Delorean beside it in the "sun roof" picture?

yes, it is a Delorean

Prôdigy2nd 12-22-05 05:33 PM

well i'm fairly new here but...... SCAM!!! look at the white cars licence plate it is a North American plate, look at the shape of it, to my understandings, all the Erupoean countries have the really slim and wide shaped palte that one there represents an Amreican, or Canadian one. To my Understanding. ask her where she took the pic of tyhe sun roof, if you notice it is inside, and right beside another car (not sure what type, maybee a FC) and why she never took the sunroof pic out side with the others.

R.K.

shpuz 12-22-05 06:45 PM

that was on ebay a week ago for 25K(cant remember the exact price tho)

EDIT: what the guy above me said.

94rxrob 12-22-05 08:35 PM

What rock have you been living under to think this could actually be legit? Unless you were born yesterday you would know it's obviously a scam. It seems like these type of threads are posted every week. Is it just me, or are people getting dumber and dumber every day? Whatever happened to common sense?

maduhbee 12-22-05 08:44 PM

it's nice to be appreciated :) lol someone's putting my car up for sale???

NoPis10 12-22-05 08:55 PM

These SCAMMERS are taken pics from legit people and posting them on autotrader for pennies on the dollar. I have personally read 3 or 4 of the ads and everytime anyone ask "recently moved to England, their car was shipped to England and it cost them to much to register and they rather sell". If memory serves me right they have listed 2 Red , 3 Yellow and 2 White FD's all with the same story line and all thru "squaretrade" for your safety and their's.
LOL

RX7 8U 12-22-05 09:07 PM

Flights to England are cheap in the winter. Less than $500 RT. It would be worth flying out there to see if it is for real. If it is you got yourself a deal. If it isn't you got yourself a nice trip to England. Good beer there at least.

dradon03 12-22-05 09:39 PM

Guys common use your heads! This is the REAL WORLD you don't get everything for nothing!

The only place to get that kind of a deal would be in JAPAN no questions asked.

Also even if it was real add the transport, and the duties which are HUGE because you are taxed on real market value and then if something is wrong you have no way of getting back at those people.

If I see one more is this car from England a scam question I am gonna FLIP!!!!

England Rx-7, Supra, Skyline = SCAM

Real world prices mean real world cars>.....

End this thread

tdazmansFD 12-22-05 10:21 PM

BEWARE!!!

That is a scam. That is the car of a member here. Codaxx is his avator.
Also, those apartment complexes are Willow Brook Apts in Reno NV. I used to live there lol!!!!!!!!

I can't beleive how much effort these people put into their scams. This person also pulled those pics off of this forum. Search thru his posts and you'll find those pics from when he was selling it for like 18k or something.

Ranger Yi 12-22-05 10:48 PM

Scam all the way.. i almost got scammed.. but i caught it..and got my money back.. i dont trust any overseas transactions.. like everyone on here says if its too good to be true then it really is.. report it to autotrader so they can take that ad off.. dont let these scammers get anyone.. thats pretty messed up..

zonblitz 12-22-05 11:16 PM

IT'S A SCAM!!!! I found countless scams just like this when I was shopping for my FD.

You'll find them for alot of cars like the FD and Supras.

Do a search and you'll find many who all live outside US, want to use squaretrade and want a deposit.

I called one guys bluff. He said car was in U.K. and I told him what a coincidence I am in U.K. on business and would love to meet and see car... he dodged me for 2 days then never resonded again.

Please report this listing to autotrader.com as we all should.

In the 2 months I shopped for my car I came across at least 7 scams that I was sure were scams.

AcesHigh 12-22-05 11:43 PM

I had one similar experience as well, though my prospective car was in Illinois. Luckily, I live about 8 hours away, and when I offered to pick up the car the seller "mysteriously" stopped returning my calls.

speedjunkie 12-22-05 11:46 PM

SCAM. The first three cars I looked at on Autotrader were scams. First two in Sofia, Bulgaria and the third in Milano, Italy, and I believe I ran across another one who said he was in England but the car was in the U.S. Run, don't walk, away from this one. I want to bust these scumbag assholes so bad.

That it's ugly as hell. :pat:

nickpapagiorgio 12-23-05 09:33 AM

AutoTrader.com is basically useless from what I've seen. I attempted to sell a car on there and the ad ran for like 12 weeks. I got about 2 legit emails and 30 emails from people over in other countries were "looking to buy the car for thier client." If you can't see the car in person, it is a scam.

sehnsucht_musik 12-23-05 03:24 PM

I pretty much assumed that it was a scam, I am not a total idiot. I knew I saw the pictures somewhere before. I just wanted some confirmation that it was, so I wouldnt feel bad for letting a possibly good deal go. But anyways, thanks alot guys, even if I thought something was legit, I dont even think I would pay over the web, I would want to pick the car up personally, what a world we live in... lol

canadaisintexas 12-23-05 03:51 PM

Ive been through this a few times. My personal favorite method of dealing with it works like this.

They claim they are in england correct?
They claim they have the car in their possesion in england

Once in a lifetime this could be a legit bargain so

Ask for a pic of the car, by a street sign (all nations street signs are different pretty much) with them in the picture holding up a certain # of fingers. If they are legit they will think wtf but most likely do it because they want it gone.
