(1992 Skyline GTR trade) worth it or not?

Someone wants to trade me a 1992 gtr skyline for my 1992 fd. I was wondering if its worth it. My fd has 102000 km his gtr has 140000km.

92BlackFD 09-14-13 12:49 AM

Don't do it.

Ruler Of Assyria 09-14-13 03:02 AM

Any reason why not?

XLR8 09-14-13 06:10 PM

There are many variables in this decision...

Much more comes in to play than year and mileage. If you took the time give a mod list and pictures of both, than others may be able to help you. Otherwise, it's a silly question....

Ruler Of Assyria 09-14-13 06:47 PM

Stock for stock. Both no rust at all. Both mechanically prestine.

SA3R 09-14-13 08:07 PM

Dont do it. The skylines here in Australia are a dime a dozen, and I've driven quite a few. They are not special. He wants to trade you because hes going to gain getting the FD. You will be unsatisfied going to the skyline. They are not on the same page as the FD.

Case in point, an R32 to R34 skyline sells starting at 6000.00 here, and only kids with hoodies and tattoos drive them in bad areas. An FD goes for 20,000 to 38,000 Australian. Big difference. Dont rip yourself off.

ZE Power MX6 09-14-13 08:16 PM

Too many Skyline in Chicago, I would stick with the FD.

TpCpLaYa 09-15-13 02:43 AM

I personally wouldn't as I think the FD was a little more advance for the day. However, "stock for stock" or mileage doesn't really mean shit....condition of the car and it's components is everything. I wouldn't trade a FD for a Lamborghini if the thing was beat to shit and falling apart.

Inspection is key if you are considering it.

Tem120 09-15-13 01:54 PM

this is a biased questions , to me the FD was the car for me . you could put a ferarri next to me and I wouldn't be jealous.

you should think about it this way if both cars are equal in maintenance Then which one gives you that Tingly sensation in your groin

Which car do you like more?
What are your ultimate goals?
Have you driven a GTR?

If it's your cup of tea, than of course, trade! But if you are on the fence, I would do some more research and see if you would regret the decision.

Like others have said, there isn't a car for me that holds a candle to the FD. I'm sure many GTR owners feel the same way though. Personal preference goes a long way.

If you just want "a fast car" then I would ditch the FD. It will disappoint you, break you, and take all of your money. You will be wondering why you stayed broke for the thing.

It's not a matter of "worth", it's a matter of "want". Do you "want" a GTR or do you "want" a RX7? Simple question. If you "want" a RX7, then say no. If you "want" a GTR, then say "yes".

Easily the best response so far....couldn't agree more.

^^ was thinking the same thing as im reading the thread ...
the other guy knows he WANTS a rx7

SA3R 09-15-13 11:37 PM

What is the saying they have over here... oh yeah-

"Friends don't let friends drive Skylines."

That about sums it up really.

ALPSTA 09-16-13 06:03 AM

I'd assume there are more FD RX7s then R32 GTRs in the US so I'd say do it. In the future when you have more funds you can buy another RX7 so you'll have 2 great cars in your garage.

Ceylon 09-16-13 06:06 AM

After owning both, I prefer the FD. But its all down to personal preference...

Gilgamesh 09-16-13 10:03 AM

pretty sure the R32 is really close to being able to the imported by the 25 and older rule to the US... Federally legal

so once the market is saturated with skylines you may loose.

OR there will be a huge demand for R32s and might can turn a profit.

your gamble.

KrisD1 09-16-13 11:37 AM

Don't do it, you will kick yourself everytime you want to overtake someone on a small road and have to move too far to the left to see if there's oncomming traffic.

I already have to do that in my rhd fd. I'm going to drive the gtr and I will see from there. In a few months you can import 89 gtr so I might just buy one soon and keep my fd. What do you guys think about the z32 tt nissan?

KrisD1 09-16-13 12:35 PM

oh I see, in that case you will need to have both :-p I see it all the time with friends in the Uk, they sell the fd to get an gtr, after 6 months they miss the fd and want one again.
Z32tt not worth it, too difficult to work on the engine and too heavy.

Tem120 09-16-13 02:06 PM

Z32? I dont think its as good as the FD , working on the car is a nightmare . and its lines just aren't as sexy as the FD's .

but again .. if its the car you want... then go for it.

like every nissan after, it looks like a whale, and is heavier than the whale too. its harder to work on than the FD is, the engine bay is tighter if you can believe that.

although the people that have the Z's do really like them

Yarberry 09-18-13 09:11 PM

nope wouldnt do it

HiWire 09-19-13 09:36 AM

I've never driven an R32. Give it a try and let us know how you like it.
