Tuning for pops bang and crackle

Hi guys,

As I get ready to start my build and refresh everything on the car I have been debating on what route I want to go for exhaust. Before I took everything apart I did a 3 inch straight pipe cat back and enjoyed the sound for the first 2 days, after that It started to give me a head ache so I put the Thermal engineering cat-back exhaust back on. I have decided that I will keep that cat-back since its really quite. Now I would like a bit more sound but was hoping that I could maybe tune for 'pops and bangs' Yes I do realize that this is probably to most ricer thing to do, but come on you can't deny that it sounds amazing. Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, and Audi all do it now to their cars...
Anyway I couldn't find anything about people doing this to their RX7, I can't see why it wouldn't be impossible. So my question is has anyone here tuned for pops and bang? If you wouldn't mind can you please upload some footage and talk about and cons.

Best thing you can do for a rotary is have an exhaust leak between the midpipe and cat back sections and no cat.

Then, take your dashpot off the throttle linkage.

If you are on an aftermarket ECU set it up to sustain fuel injection on decell instead of cut fuel.

No exhaust leak= no flames, no bangs, no pops.

-edit- wasn't able to link my vids

Im going aftermarket ECU, adaptronic to be specific. So essentially just tune for sustained fuel injection on deceleration. Any cons in doing this beside lower MPG, looking like a jackass, and maybe higher EGT.

Keeping fuel on decell.

It will decrease your gas mileage a tiny bit.

Easier to tune.

Lower EGTs (fuel in engine/exhaust- but no combustion in engine/exhaust, just atmosphere).

Aftermarket ECU-
You can have fun like this guy.

the practical part of the pops and crackling is that the newer cars do fuel cut, but cutting fuel all the way, is bad for cat temps (i want to say temps go up, and too hot = melting), so they dump a little fuel in there on decel to manage cat temps, and it goes bang bang.

personally, it was cool the first time i heard it, but like every car here does it, so its like the 90's ricer hondas to me

Yeah, I was surprised how raucous just a stock FD is with catback and dashpot screwed all the way out (stock class racing).

Corvette racer in my class "That thing can't be stock, just listen to it!"

i just drove about 35 miles in my FC-REW with a stock FD ecu, and preturbo EGT. i didn't really get on it, but just driving around EGT is pretty stable at 700c. the FC moves around a lot more.

its too early to say yet, but the RE Amemyia ecu dropped EGT a bit

I have a feeling that I'm going to get tired of it really quickly. I might setup two different maps in adaptronic. Normal and "sport" aka Ricer mode.

*assuming you don't have a pre-cat anymore and are still on stock twins* and if you want more sound without the deafening of a midpipe, then get a RESONATED midpipe. They are a world of difference. I had a straight midpipe for like about a week... It was just ridiculous. So I got a resonated MP and it was perfect. I had a RB dual catback with a magnaflow resonated MP and the car had a deep grumple at idle, civil in the highway (no drone), but when floored the car really came alive. Now I have a vented wastegate so none of that matters.

TOTAL RICER thing to do and it wouldn't surprise me if those companies tune the cars for that reason as well. I remember seeing a thread (in another forum) were the VW guys were complaining how the engine noise they hear @ WOT is actually a recording that comes on through their speakers .

I will say though, that these cars when modified and tuned tend to pop and spit flames on a regular basis. No fake ****, no ricer attribute. Just good ol' rotary power

Im going to be running BNR stage 3 turbos (Sequential). Totally forgot about going resonated MP, looks like I now have another item to add to the purchase list.

Not surprised by the fake sound at all, I know BMW is now doing that to all their cars. Seems to be the trend honestly, as cars become more and more refined engine sound becomes obsolete.

My Focus RS does the pops and bangs, all stock. I have a video about the development of the car where the project lead says he wanted the pops knowing that they serve no purpose and only waste fuel... Also, I disabled the fake noises through the speakers. It was pretty annoying especially knowing it was all fake.

My FD doesn't pop and bang as much as the Focus, but it shoots fire, and fire is always better than some popping noise.

My 400hp TII FB doesnt pop, bang or carry on at all. Just sounds like a rage filled demon when on the wastegates and squirming the tyres. Then back off and overrun whatever gear im in - smooth as a baby's bum.
Previous tune was a bit snap crackle and pop. Melted the paint off the bumper overrunning 4th gear at the racetrack. Dont ask me the specs on the tune cos i dont have the foggiest.

If you are deleting the OMP, then you should have fuel on development to keep the premix flowing.

Although, If you are BNR with the adaptronic plug and play then I'm guessing you are keeping the OMP
