.... anyways, we know the 93 is an R1, and the 94 is an R2, but is the 1995 an R3? the parts fish says R3.

Just because someone put an R3 listing on a parts list doesnt, mean it is an actual model of the car. Parts lists often contain clerical errors.
I dont know why this is even a discussion. Everyone knows there is no R3. |

Everyone knows there is no R3. :dunno: This is called history. Some people are interested in learning history and some aren't You research and find out if it was just a typo or if Mazda had planned to call the 1995 R2 models R3 models at some point. You know, like the Mazda RX-7 M2.1020 that was also never produced, but then that development/parts went into the RX-7 SP project. History. Facts. Fun. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...384cb1a736.jpg |
I'm not going to waste my time researching history because someone on the internet makes a statement known to be "fake news". There is no R3. Thats a fact. Everyone knows it. Anyone that states that there might be an R3 is just blowing smoke up your ass.
My ass is closed. No smoke is getting in there. There is no R3. End of story!!! |

I think he was just joking :) Is that parts fish from an official Mazda site? Better yet, where did it come from? https://www.rx7club.com/attachments/...r2-r3-1993.png it is interesting because we've just called the 1995's R2's, and do we know that for a fact or are we wrong? it does seem like this is the only place that says R3, but its worth asking. |

Prove that it isn't. I shopped for a new red 1995 RX-7 R2 in November of 1995. My dealer, John Hein Mazda in San Diego, searched the national inventory, unfortunately, there weren't any 1995 red R2s available at that time. As far as North American marking goes, there was no such thing as an R3. The 1995 North American sales brochure that the dealer gave me listed only a R2.
also part of my job involves me petitioning to update the Autocare database for the year, make, model. they have standards and you can't just send them an email and say hey you have this wrong, you need proof. documentation. just you saying you had a brochure isn't enough. i know we all wish we had this time machine, but Mazda made a last run of Rx7's in December, so if you waited there would have been red R packages (in about a month i can tell you how many) |
Regardless, I highly recommend you acquire yourself a 1995 R2.

actually i was thinking about a BN1 Austin Healey. |
Let's not overthink it too much. I regularly hear people see an FD and call it an RX-8. It looks like that happened in the ad too. There definitely was an R3 RX-8.
|
I would love a big Healey. Though I think the RX7 will be a better investment (I can't believe I just wrote that). In all seriousness, Japanese cars from the 80s and 90s are moving up. If you want the ultimate car investment, buy a Japanese race car from the 80s and 90s, ideally with some race provenance.

I've been hating on my MSP (Mazdaspeed Protege) for so long that it's becoming kind of cool again too. I had some kid ask about it the other day while I was checking the surf. I was like..THAT car? It's not an evo you know.
Then he told me all about my MSP and how rare and sick it is. I definitely agree about the FC too. When was the last time you saw a clean unmolested S5 T2 drive by? They're gaining value quick. |
