Prove that it isn't. I shopped for a new red 1995 RX-7 R2 in November of 1995. My dealer, John Hein Mazda in San Diego, searched the national inventory, unfortunately, there weren't any 1995 red R2s available at that time. As far as North American marking goes, there was no such thing as an R3. The 1995 North American sales brochure that the dealer gave me listed only a R2.

Pardon my language, but you are being a jerk about this. Gee, there is some documentation calling it a R3. You have two people Dale and myself who have seen a 1995 sales brochure and state that it lists only the R2. If that is not enough and you are really interested, call up Mazda's North American number (800) 222-5500. Ask the nice lady about information on the 1995 RX-7 R3. If you are too lazy to do that then we are really wasting our time with this post.

Just because someone put an R3 listing on a parts list doesnt, mean it is an actual model of the car. Parts lists often contain clerical errors.

its right from the index of the mircofilm. i was actually looking for Canadian cars, or a chart that listed the models/colors, but found this instead.

it is interesting because we've just called the 1995's R2's, and do we know that for a fact or are we wrong? it does seem like this is the only place that says R3, but its worth asking.

i'm not seriously thinking that the 1995's were R3's, but it has been a long time, and have we seen any 1995 specific documentation?

also part of my job involves me petitioning to update the Autocare database for the year, make, model. they have standards and you can't just send them an email and say hey you have this wrong, you need proof. documentation.

i know we all wish we had this time machine, but Mazda made a last run of Rx7's in December, so if you waited there would have been red R packages (in about a month i can tell you how many)

Regardless, I highly recommend you acquire yourself a 1995 R2.

Let's not overthink it too much. I regularly hear people see an FD and call it an RX-8. It looks like that happened in the ad too. There definitely was an R3 RX-8.

I would love a big Healey. Though I think the RX7 will be a better investment (I can't believe I just wrote that). In all seriousness, Japanese cars from the 80s and 90s are moving up. If you want the ultimate car investment, buy a Japanese race car from the 80s and 90s, ideally with some race provenance.

agreed. it is so strange to me that people actually LIKE the Rx7's now, i can't drive my Fc without getting a thumbs up, or a compliment or something. its not like the Tr-3 was, but it probably will be at some point.

I definitely agree about the FC too. When was the last time you saw a clean unmolested S5 T2 drive by? They're gaining value quick.

those proteges ARE rare. i think the whole time i worked for Mazda we only saw one or two of those. FD's were basically everywhere, i'm still sick of them
