New Rocket Bunny retro kit for the FD, fake or real?
Found this photo on some FB group. Not sure if fake or real. And not sure how I feel about this, but still interesting to say the least...

It's real, it was posted on their instagram too.
Can't say I'm feelin it. |
cool. Thanks!
Yeah me to, I'm having mixed feelings about it. |
So FD with RX-3 front end? Looks ok.
|
Ill stick to my pop up lights, looks cool.
|
bah, interesting
|
I think I like it. Like...64% like. 18% dislike and 16% not sure.
|
Well to be fair, the retro rx-3 front looks better than many aftermarket FD bumpers available on the market...
But as others have said, I love my pop-up lights. Maybe if I had an extra FD to mess around with I'd try out this kit |
Hate it.
Everything Rocket Bunny is fuck ugly and so ricer. Ruins the FDs lines and all other cars that have these kits. |
do this, then put a v8 in it, watch flames ???? profit
Looks ok I guess. Kinda like their 240 thing, huh? Think I'm at higher risk for the OG FD kit, if any. Stock lines are hard to beat on the FD. |

That is THE epitome of butterface. Imagine you have this hot slender svelte girl with a tight body and when you gaze up at her face she has this incongruous blocky lantern jaw like Buzz Lightyear. That totally describes this car.
|
I don't understand the Rocket Bunny fad. Looks like the ugly body kit fad from 15 years ago.
|
Props for RB finally doing something else then just fit the same kit to every car model but I'm good. Mazda needs to do a retro RX3 not RB.

i think it looks ok. it needs to be black though...not purple.
|
That front flare is ridiculous. That's the one thing that really makes the kit look terrible.
|
|
Not feeling it one bit...

I still have mixed feelings about it. Its very different than anything that is offered on the market for the FD, very original, which is cool. But at the same time it completely brakes everything that makes and FD, the slanted nose, the curves...etc. When I first saw this image my brain had a slight short circuit  |
The FD is so damn good looking you can't even mess it up with that front bumper
UMMM no thanks! It's like wearing tennis shoes with a tux |
Yeah, TRA-Kyoto has this for their retro "Boss" line.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...d200b62a24.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...2c311b99d0.jpg I like it. I have always loved the RX-3 for its looks and heritage of the most successful/legendary rotary race car, but never wanted to actually own/drive/race one because they are old pos cars. I don't like the ridiculous RocketBunny flares that much since they aren't really for function (only need +40mm rear to fit widest tires made). I would like to see the front end on a stock(ish) narrow body FD. You have to remember that in Japan the FDs are ubiquitous in the tuning scene, so people like to see something different once in a while not sacrificing performance. I won't get the kit because it costs money, doesn't make the car faster and puts it in a higher racing class. But it makes me happy that it exists. |
Im gonna do it just cause it butthurt so many of you nice ppl. Just gotta find a nice stock R2 to ruin...
|
I'm pretty sure the FD has the record for front end conversions over any other import car in history. We've seen multiple custom front ends from Veilside and Feed and the Porsche conversions from RE Amemiya. I'm not even talking about crappy conversions with Celica headlights and etc from the late 90s/early 2000s...
|
I hate to admit it... but I actually like it.
I really like the retro look and feel, with modern inner workings. |
I really like the vintage look, but I think I'd prefer to see it on an FC.
|
I really do like the looks of FCs without the front bumper, I think there does need to be such a kit for the FC.
But the FD body is much closer to the RX-3 body with its curvy rear fenders and rear deck extending behind the rear glass. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...ab9de317e6.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...574d8ee20d.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...5edbb82e45.jpg |
I like that it pisses people off, I would love to see it on the FC, I thought the cabin on the FD is too tall? but I know its hard to recreate a shape when the RX3 looks so good.
I am not the biggest fan of overfenders, I wonder how a narrow kit with standard datsun style flares would look like. It will be way expensive so I doubt I will see one in person but it is cool. |
|
Can I get one for my 1st gen?! *drool*

As with all RB kits you should be able to buy the parts separately so the whole narrow body with this nose on it should be in fact possible.

you know this stupid thing is growing on me...
Even still: I don't get why companies keep trying to change the FD into something that is completely unrecognizeable. Especially given that the FD's most attractive feautre is its looks. Montego playuh... you know this stupid thing is growing on me... Even still: I don't get why companies keep trying to change the FD into something that is completely unrecognizeable. Especially given that the FD's most attractive feautre is its looks. FDs are all over the performance scene in Japan. They are really cheap and still can be made very fast, so many people have them. I think the most attractive feature of the FD to these people is its performance potential, not its downright common (in Japan) looks. In Japan the Options Vid guys said if you want to buy an FD for performance don't even bother with the early cars, go straight to 99-2002 model. I understand things are very different here where we got the FD for 3 of its 11 years of production and it didn't sell well. |
