If you really want to understand the FD market, buy and sell 100 FDs in the next 10 years, or put the work in ;-)

So are you saying that just because you and David said it we should all treat it as gospel?

BTW if we are using numbers of cars sold as an expertise don't forget that up until a few years ago DJ used to be adamant that FD's would NOT appreciate in value. But I guess that's different right? ;) Granted, in his defense he actually made a thread to acknowledge that he had been mistaken all those years. So kudos to him for that.

Of course not, that's ridiculous......yes that's sarcasm ;)

I hope you realize David is still buying and selling FDs, or in other words he has a very good handle on the current market even today? That said nothing has changed other than they are all more expensive. Again the rarer FDs will start to command 10k plus in value over the general market of touring cars.

ok lol. But this has been my whole point:

I hope this isn't interpreted as picking a side in this war - but it is not wrong to say that if hardtops were so desirable such that they were positively influencing people's willingness to pay, that would be clearly reflected in data somewhere.

^^That's all I'm saying. Because the supra definitely reflects that and there were a lot less turbo supras than there were FD's

Yup!

Yup!

I understand you want a credible source to say hardtops are worth X amount more. Maybe that will happen, maybe it won't happen. Until then we can have fun and argue :)

BOTTOMLINE: It all matters (year, model, color etc...) and the more valuable these cars become the more it's going to matter :D

eslai 04-24-19 06:38 PM

I don't know, they didn't build all that many FDs. At some point, I think people care mostly about condition rather than how rare the car is within its model year. We'll see how it all plays out--I'm surprised at how many "unicorns" we're seeing in the past year.

WE ALL AGREE 100 PERCENT with this statement :)

Mileage and condition trumps everything

BUT… it has a GLASS sunroof!!!!!

Well it is a beautiful example but also I don't think I'm alone in thinking the 94+ tan interiors are more attractive than the 93's.

No you are not alone. One of the many reasons 94s are worth more than 93s. But we'll wait for Road and Track to tell us that ;)

At 56 with an hour to go :D

David knows a thing or two about a thing or two.

The supra better look out because the FD is making a late run down the back straight.........LOL

Fritz Flynn 04-25-19 12:52 PM

60k...........new ground is definitely being broken.

The price of all my FDs just went UP :D

gmonsen 04-25-19 01:06 PM

Yeah. This could be the start of something big. The Montego and Tan combination with a sunroof being the car to break in the $60's is mind-boggling. Wonder what a black/black R1 with 2,500 miles would do?

ZE Power MX6 04-25-19 01:09 PM

Gonna touch 70k?

LOL.........

I'm speechless

70.....

benzguy and BW1 want this one and BW1 is the lucky winner :D

Montego 04-25-19 01:12 PM

$70K wow!

edv 04-25-19 01:14 PM

Amazing Price!

No need BaT just did!

jsesq 04-25-19 01:15 PM

That’s a game changer! I expect to see the market flooded in the immediate aftermath. “Flooded” being a relative term!

yep

RCCAZ 1 04-25-19 01:16 PM

Yup, anyone who still has their primo FD insured for $30K might want to rethink this and contact their insurance company to raise it some.

YEP and forget about CW cars or R2 etc... it's MB all the way LOL

jsesq 04-25-19 01:21 PM

I’m also interested in whether Hagerty will get this factored in for their pricing update on May 1st. I might have to revisit my policy value.

Just amazing!

Fritz Flynn 04-25-19 01:21 PM

It's awesome that there were several interested bidders at 50k and up.

This really does set a new bench mark for the FD and it's value.

As mentioned we will likely start to see some very nice cars going on the auction block. Hopefully a super low mileage R2.
