No money to do much tracking. Looking into buying a 2nd M3/4, so I can start tracking my current M3/4. Lots of parts for this car, and a huge loyal following like this crowd. Tech support is abundant (unlike the FD, where you have to be your own mech). I readily admit the FD was, and probably will be the fastest car I've ever owned, but I'm looking forward to normally aspirated reliability LOL :) Peace all!

Exactly. You're wise for your age! I caught the car bug when I was 29, so I'm a late in realizing what you did. The FD was great though. I don't regret my 9 years with it. All of my hot track seat time was in the FD--and like riding a bicycle, I'm sure, it won't be long before I can get some of that former glory back in the M3/4--hopefully with a little less frustration. Yup that would be me :) We used my friends pretty stock car. Koni shocks, PFS cat back exhaust, and an efini Y-pipe. That's all we had. Car dynoed IIRC a few weeks after the event at 246rwhp. We probably had the most underpowered car there! :D

im a young guy who owns a 3rd gen (18) but then again my first car was an fc and i drove that for quite sometime and got used to rotaries and the way the car handles etc. never going to let it go!

I am 60 with some gray hair that is thinning. Have been a sports car owner since my first car back in 1966. I never give a shit to any sub human who thinks such limiting ideas or thoughts. Do what you enjoy as long as it does not harm anyone. Unless they like to be harmed, as S&M behavior.

miss seeing you around. As part of the over 30 crowd I am still enamored with the car and still learning aspects of tracking. I think I am behind everyone else as I have had to delay the joys (and expenses of modifying and tracking the car) to finish medical school and the associated training.

But doing so I ended up with some financial freedom to get a M3 daily driver and still have the 7 to learn to track on.

My original plan was the same as yours, M3/4 for daily driver, FD for track. I had both cars from July to Nov 2004. Financially I couldn't keep both cars (I took a bath with 3 motors, 2 sets of twins, all the power mods, etc).

The FD went to a good home in NY.

The users seem to be a good mix of young/old--with most being well-behaved--but like any forum, there are the requisite idiots and internet scammers.

I'm looking for another pair of stock rear 8.5 x 17 M Double Spoke IIs to replace the 7.5s up front. The staggered fitment on these cars suck. Too much understeer. Let me know if you plan to upgrade your wheels, and perhaps you'll consider selling me your rears (for a good buddy price ;) ;) )

I've been a proud owner of an R1 for the past 5 years, since i was 18. I fell in love with the FD when i was 16 watching them run local autocrosses. Teenagers are not too young to drive an FD, it just depends on if they're smart enough to know what they're getting themselves into. The car has requires a lot of work, but I don't think I've spent more than a 4 grand on it since purchased in 2000. I've choosen not to modify it except for reliability reasons; downpipe, silicon lines etc. so I can enjoy it as long as I can afford to keep it.

As for being to old, I'm not to sure about that one. The fastest lap time at SCCA Nationals was set by a man that I believe was at least 60, possibly even 70 years old. I would say there is no age limit. Go by what racing champions say, "I'll quit driving when I'm not having fun anymore."

It's not fun when the FD breaks at track events.

Oh! Sorry, Doc :) The M3forum.net is quiet. Same with bimmerfest. C'mon over to the bimmerforum. In the meantime I hope you're enjoying both cars. They handle similarly, except the bimmer sticks better, and the FD has more top end power.

Look at Amemiya-San ... he still drives RX-7s and is certainly not in his twenties ...

the older you get, the more stable you become and the more money you can spend on your FD (at least that's how I see it) :)
