Excellent tech video on intakes

Saw this yesterday -

Very solid tech discussion of intakes, intake design, etc. That channel has a lot of really solid, well researched tech - they mainly do high horsepower RB26's but the video applies to our cars big time.

My take aways from it -

- An intake/airbox setup is good to a certain power level then it becomes a restriction. So, a stock air box may be fine for a near-stock car, but when you start making more power by opening up the exhaust and raising the boost it can be a restriction at that point.
- Turbos are less picky on intake design than non-turbo cars.
- Turbo cars get most of their "cold air" from the intercooler. A cold air intake doesn't matter as much on a turbo car as a non-turbo car, but it's worth ducting clean fresh air in.

Anyhow, really enjoyed that video, made a ton of sense.

i did a lot of research on "cold air" and the data surprised me. the turbo and intercooler are by miles the primary factors re our IATs. i will eventually be doing something on this important subject. i just received, today, the fourth intercooler which will complete my tests.

The rule of thumb from way back when PFS was testing largely holds true. "Cold air is good, but more air is better". Ie cold air great, but don't restrict the turbo to get it.

On my car I have a heat shield to keep the radiator fan air away from the intakes and a duct to bring in some fresh outside air. I think that's the way to go.
